I DID SOMETHING REALLY BOLD TO ONE OF MY GUITARS TODAY

I love Firebirds. But I hate mini humbuckers.

So I was playing my Firebird today and I thought to myself…”self, this guitar would sound killer with a Duncan JB in the bridge!”

I pulled out the bridge pickup and started doing some figuring and planning and decided to go for it!!

The good thing was that the mini hum route is the same width as a regular humbucker. So I just make it a little longer.

It actually wasn’t too hard. I used one of those vibrating cutting tools and my Dremel.

It turned out perfect. I even impressed myself. Lol.

Now this Bird is a Bad Ass!!!

Ugh, you must have bawls the size of bowling balls, I was sick when I widened the hole for a different pot in a guitar, let alone lengthen the pickup cavity. Looks good though

I think you got that backwards. Minis are the same length rout as the full-sized humbucker, but they are narrower width than the full-sized humbucker. Single coils are even narrower than a mini.

But we understand what you meant...your photos make it clear.

Good job. But why didn't you use a chrome mounting ring for the full-sized humbucker like you have with the mini? I think it would have looked better...more of a factory design choice, like its original condition, rather than an afterthought DIY mod.

because i didnt have one...i ordered one last night

Cool? Hell yeah! Bold? Not really. You know what you are doing with a router; there wasn't too much risk. Nice job. I want to reach into the picture and bang a couple of riffs on that baby.

It'll be a lot bigger sounding. Good idea. I agree ordering a chrome ring for it was the right move for sure.
Maybe even think about a no-hole pickup cover...
