I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

I have had my eyes on this one for a while so I sat around for a couple of hours in the Guitar Center amp room and played this against the Strat. I have to say that I am extremely impressed with this guitar. I'll tell you about it because everyone who is interested in buying a quality guitar should try this one.

First the neck is fast and smooth. It plays very evenly. These are some stock pups that you want to keep. They have great definition, punch, and smooth characteristics. Suprisingly enough metal sounds are easily obtainable with this guitar. The bridge is superb and very comfortable to play. The tuners are Taylor manufactured and STAY in tune. It feels a little heavier than a Strat, but the tone is thick and rich with excellent harmonics and crunch.

I love the volume knob. It works so very well and I am impressed. It really does clean up the tone without sucking the tone out. From clean to heavy distortion this guitar is amazing. I need not mention how well sweep picking works on it. The notes flutter clearly as you sweep with no crosstalk.

Examining this guitar up close will reveal a true eye for detail and quality craftsmanship. This does not come with a gig back as shown. It comes with a nice brown tweed case.

Congratulations!

Seems like you got more than what you bargained for. Any chance to hear a few clips? I can't remember, are these supposed to offer an acoustic-like sound as well?

i really like it, but it could use some neck binding... congrats, sir!

I really like the bridge on that thing. Decent looking guitar too.
A good P-rails guitar IMO.

Thanks everyone. I am completely impressed with this buy. Your feedback has been really helpful.

Congratulations!

Definitely. I have to show how good this guitar sounds. Hopefully I can do that in a clip :). I think the guitar you are thinking about is the T5 which is an electric accoustic. It is a very popular model, but this one is a solidbody. If Taylor keeps making more electrics I'm going to go broke! :bigok:

Re: I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

I'd have a hard time swapping pickups on that guitar. From everything I've read, it was the pickup design that got them motivated to build a solidbody electric in the first place. Why throw out the heart of such a carefully considered total design? For me, if I didn't like the sound of it plugged in, this would be a case of "well, better buy a different guitar."

Plus, those aren't standard-sized humbuckers. You really want to take a router to it?

A good P-rails guitar IMO.

Re: I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

Looks sweet! Is the switch 3 or 5 way?

Deep set neck or bolt?

I like the unique shape of the pic guard.

They are mini humbuckers 3/4 size. Dimarzio makes minis and Duncan makes a Mini Custom. I think those are the size. The pickups were something that I carefully selected. Taylor put a lot of effort in crafting these pickups and they are magnificent. I tried to pick a guitar that I would leave stock and this won over all in my price range.

I would never take a router to it. If I ever get tired of it I'll sell it on Ebay and buy a new guitar. Modded guitars lose a lot of value. All I can say is that you have to plug one into your favorite amp and jam for a while.

It is a bold on neck, but it has a unique design that helps the sustain and allows you to shim the neck for tilt adjustment.

Very nice, my local shop just started carrying Taylor and I hope that they get one of these in to try out.

This video is pretty impressive:

I saw that and there is a video I posted in the sound room that shows a guy playing the hell out of it. He is playing through a processor I think and it still sounds awesome. I swear this guitar is a freaking steal at $1000 with the brown tweed case. One thing I can tell you is take it and pump it through a high powered amp like a 5150 or triple rect. This thing can do metal!

well i think the strat looked better but you would've been swapping pickups for months if that's what you bought. good move taking some time and finding a guitar you truely love.

Sorry, I was replying specifically to the...guy... who suggested putting P-Rails in, which would require routing.

Congrats on the cool guitar!

Thank God you didn't get a Strat. I think you're coming around to the warm side. Good work son. I'm liking you more every day.

That guitar comes with the mini humbuckers, but is also available with full size buckers. I did not know which version he bought. I was simply revealing what "I" would do with a guitar like that.

Definately a cool guitar.
