Anyhoo, real ebony, chunky neck, dull thin finish, usa p90s, 18:1 tuners, none of those typical gaudy out of place giant pickup ring/pickguard screws...

I don't always get along with p90s, but...

Jimmy Page's stolen Lester (the Gibson variety).

His was a later version with triple PAFs and Bigsby, no?

This Epiphone is based on the 55 model, minus the Staple.

Yeah wrong guitar/player. For some reason I thought Jimmy had a custom with p90 and a staple neck...

It was Kossoff who had a '55 Custom with p90 and staple neck.

Nice. Did not know Kossoff owned one, though it should not be a surprise he owned multiple killer Les Pauls (and one killer black strat, too)

I have yet to see that guitar........I'd grab that in a heartbeat

Its a pity they don't do the staple, but I know why for that guitar.....they're a bugger of a pickup to make and fit.

Re: I do not deny that my heart has greatly desired this...

I've not played a staple. Someone over on MLP who owns the Epi says it will fit, just a couple different holes need to be drilled to mount one(?).

I had to edit my post. The spell checker subbed the wrong word. I'm still on the fence. Gonna stop by Guitar Center and check one out today.

Re: I do not deny that my heart has greatly desired this...

Like the neck. Chunky chunky. Big 50s profile. Nearing R8 ish.

Finish looks a bit worse in person and binding kind of looks like an old glow in the dark piece of plastic in full daylight.

Tone unplugged was typical of alot of epiphones, IME. Dull and pokey/midrangey, not terribly clear. Compressed highs and lows. Cheapass bridge and saddles are not helping.

Tone plugged in- I love P90s for cleans and just barely breaking up, not so much for crunch or distortion. Not enough cut/scream/high midrange for my tastes (hence Iommi using a treble booster, BITD...I'd have to have one too for P90s)

$800. Passed.

Just a fyi - Staples and p90s fit quite differently. I have a version of a staple for my BB R4 clone. The middle of the rout needs to be deeper than most p90 routs about. Plus the real staple screws to elevated shims on the diagonal corners.....something certainly not present on any p90 rout.
