I don't care what Fender is paying him

Re: I don't care what Fender is paying him

Duncan should send Clapton a care package.
A set of Surfers/Ant II Custom bridge....this is for your favorite strat.
Custom Shop 59 nickel set......this is for your SG
Two sets of Custom Shop Seth Lovers.....for your red 335 signature model and favorite LP

And a Seymour Duncan logo garbage can......for your Lace Sensors and Fender noiseless.

I'd be a little ticked if I went to see Led Zeppelin on a reunion and Jimmy was playing a Jackson.

Or more appropriately, a PRS. I'd wanna see him rockin' with Gibson's if it was a Zeppelin reunion gig.

You know, some stuff is doggone jaw droppingly scary incredible. A lot of it is very pedestrian. How many different times can they redo the same song or take another old blues cover... But then come out with stuff like Shapes, Over/Under..., Puzzles, and then Ha Ha Said The Clown...

Little Games are for little boys
I found there are other joys...

I take it you've seen that recent-ish photo of JP playing a PRS McCarty onstage?

Re: I don't care what Fender is paying him

although i don't think when you buy a ticket it entitles you to re-live your youth exactly as you remember it, i think people would be a lot more upset if ginger or jack couldn't 'cut it' anymore, or they had a sloppy, drunk performance. the gear is really secondary here- us guitarists complain about the guitar, but Jack didn't use a Bass IV, and I am sure the PA was as digital and state of the art as possible? And the recording gear? Most likely a bank of hard drives there. from what i had seen/heard, they gave a great performance that any 40 year old band who hasn't played for 35 years wishes they could top- even 40 year old bands that still tour. Remember Led Zep at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame performance? Now if Jimmy used a Jackson, would you be upset because of the guitar, or because the performance was awful?

Re: I don't care what Fender is paying him

Now, if you can find a picture of Clapton playing a Jackson Soloist.....ding, ding, ding, you win a prize!!!! hahahaha

Remember around 88 when Page's solo album came out? He was using that brown/black pointy headstocked guitar with the Kahler-ish trem on it?

yeah, it's more important that they're comfortable up there and playing well. I read that one of the reasons they're enjoying themselves is that they have modern PA and monitoring systems that enabled to hear everything properly, unlike the old days.

Re: I don't care what Fender is paying him

let the guy use what he wants...pshhh.....mincer nailed it, clapton sounds and plays like clapton, i don't care what he uses.

Re: I don't care what Fender is paying him

I just got the reunion dvd ( cream ) and it felt more like it was Eric Clapton playing with a cover band. Not Cream playing there old songs and keeping it fresh. It didnt sound right. I mean Claptons skill was there, but the tone wasnt.

Re: I don't care what Fender is paying him

I like the older stuff, but then again everyone has differant tastes, he might just enjoy playing a stratocaster.
