When I soldered a cover on my Custom the pickup went into the cover all the way, nice and deep and I got an excellent fit. Earlier today I tried to put a cover on the Distortion neck model and the pickup would not sit as deeply as the Custom did. You can clearly see that the Custom went in deeper than the Distortion did.
So I didn't want to solder the pickups in and then discover that the neck was noisy so I decided to remove my covers and just go with the Zebra bare coil look.
Can someone offer an explanation as to why one Duncan pickup sits perfectly in a nickel cover (Duncan of course) where as another Duncan pickup doesn't sit right?
