I don't really understand this strat..

Re: I don't really understand this strat..

Another one that interested me, a ___________ (fill in the blank) for $549.99. Seemed like a nice deal.

Assuming that you have the five to six hundred greenbacks to drop, you need to make a clear decision about what you expect your next electric guitar to do that your current one(s) cannot do.

For example, if you have a decent Stratocaster but require another one to serve as back-up, concentrate only on Stratocasters. Do not allow yourself to be distracted by nice deals on Les Pauls, SGs, pointy Metal shapes or whatever else shows up.

Re: I don't really understand this strat..

My question is, is it the same quality as a "true" MIA strat, and is it worth 500$?(I only have that much if it's an amazing deal. ;) )

Dude, you picked the guitar so you are the best one to say how good the guitar is now. The problem with MIM is not they are made in Mexico but the fact that Fender tries to reduce the cost with different quality materials and paying workers a lower salary than they would be forced to in the USA. I have played MIM that look, feel and and sound excellent because those guitars are in the price range that matches that quality.

Play the guitar, compare it with other used MIA used guitars. You can always put some duncans in it anyway, rigth?

Also, how can they put a MIA stamp on it, if it's not MIA?
You should ask Fender directly or their forum.

As of now, I actually have 2 "Pointy metal shapes"(Both were free or I wouldn't have exactly bought them) A double cut lower end washburn and an epi les paul studio.

Out of the four, my favorite is the LP, but I haven't really been able to just sit down and really pay attention to a nice strat yet. At GC with all those people walking around, I can't really get the feel of it...

Re: I don't really understand this strat..

I think $550 for an American strat assembled in Mexico is a good deal (as long as you can stand the 21 frets).

Another one that interested me,

A close to like-new Gibson Les Paul Studio for $549.99

Seemed like a nice deal.

If it plays nice this is a really good deal. It's not easy to find Gibby Studios for under $700 that play nice and are in like new condition. Like Funk said though, you gotta make up your mind on what you're looking for and what you want out of your new guitar. Both guitars are good deals.
