I feel like an idiot... does anybody have extra humbucker mounting springs?

why would you do that? Don't cut them in half. You'll end up with two springs that are too short and your pickup will wobble. But I do sympathyze..I have but one strap button for my nearly completed Strat assembly. Also cannot find the hardware to remount my '66 Bassman head to the cabinet...for want of a nail, the kingdom was lost.

Hmm, standard humbucekr mounting screws are kind of hard to get on, and have some required tension so the pickupo doesnt tilt and wobble ,potentially causing noise..How come you can get by with 1/2 a spring??

Glad you got it worked out! Just saw this now otherwise I'd have let you know I saw a pair at my work bench.

I've done this many times!
The spring from a pen with a retractable clicker for the writing point works nearly perfectly.

To the people who are confused as to why you would cut a spring...
Cause they are too ****ing long and a pain in the ass to deal with. Never had an issue with wobble or anything because the spring was shorter. I usually cut them to just pass the length of the screw vs (what seems like) 6" longer
