I finally broke down

And bought a Triaxis. I kept dorking around with cheaper stuff, and I wasn't happy.

Thought I could go really cheap, Peavey Rockmaster (good little pre-amp actually!) then I said well I want more and got a JMP-1. (don't really like it, selling it btw!) Still wasn't happy. Was going to buy a head maybe a DSL or Recto, tried them out didn't like them.

My wife was like look, just get what you want or you're going to keep spending money on cheaper stuff and not be happy and wind up spending as much, or more, than if you buy what you really want! So I went to Guitar Center and tried out a used Triaxis and fell in love! What a pre-amp! Especially paired with a Boogie power amp. So I bought it used. Not a bad price. If I find one cheaper on E-bay I may take it back to GC, but I doubt it. I got it for around what they usually go for used. Its the 2.0 version, about $1100 used.

Motto of my rambling? If you can afford it, just get what you really want! If you can't, just save and get it! Or you won't be happy and will wind up spending more money in the long run. Now I have a lot of crap to sell hehe.

Just goes to show that behind every good man, there's a great woman...

True! My wife is awesome, very understanding about this stuff. Also she was probably sick of hearing me complain and piss and moan :) Every day I discover some new, cool sound on the Triaxis.

ARR!

I almost bought a triaxis, but i got screwed over by this fag trying to raise the price.
Now im buying a markIV, I will have to wait a few years for a triaxis now...

There comes a point where you've got to stop settling for second best. Don't get anxious, and buy what you can afford. Always try to stretch past the outter limits of your budget, and you'll save money in the long run. Good score on the Triaxis!
When you're ready to buy a power amp, make sure to take the preamp with you, so you know for sure that it sounds huge. Personally, I like the the big block Mesa 295, or the newer 2:100. The 50/50 isn't bad, but go for the 2:90, 2:100, or 295.
The 395 and Strategy 500 are so loud they'll knock your walls down!

Good luck with the Triaxis! I agree, buy what you want, if you can afford it. I was looking at new amps for awhile and just happen to come across the 5150 that I own today. I've wanted one of these but just never thought I could afford it (5150 II go for $1000 +). But I found a deal that I was happy with, and now have an amp that I'm even happier with.

Its funny you say that because I played the triaxis on a 2:90 at Guitar Center and I think it did sound a bit better than my 50/50. Seems they are really made for each other. Especially with the external switching that the TriAxis supports and the different modes you can switch the 2:90 to via it. Hehe I was just looking at these on ebay yesterday and I down loaded the manual.

That may have to wait though. My next aquisition, next year, will be a Boogie cab to replace my Carvin. Then probably the 2:90 later next year or early the next. I do want one eventually.

I still have some tweaking to do! Seems like I find a good sound, but then I have to test it jamming with some tunes at a good volume to really see if I like it. But nothing sounds really BAD on it. Its just my personal preference and being a picky tone freak. P.
