If the OP's guitar is wired like the diagram in post #1, it cannot possibly work.
The jumper wire intended to link between the two wiper contacts of the two poles of the selector switch has been illustrated running top left to bottom right. It should run top right to bottom left. (Like the schematic posted by AlexR in post #2)
