I got a dozen vintage projects

Almost Never

Really. A guy had these in various condition, from working to entirely without hardware or electronics. I plan on working on a few and selling whatever I don't feel like is worth keeping.

I have limited info on them. If you know more, feel free.

I am assuming from the neck pickup, if it is stock, this is a 70s Les Paul Deluxe that was repainted, the bridge pickup routed larger, and a middle pickup added, as well as a Kahler. The serial is painted over. The "Model" on the headstock seems off but it seems like a real Les Paul. Headstock repaired.

Intramark. The electronics seem to work. The finish is cracked a bunch. It would need a lot of work to the finish.

Silvertone, seems to work, if it gets dirty when turned up. Case is rough, but I assume most don't use it for the case.

I can't confirm if this is a Vox, there are no marks.

Ridiculous build. The body seems handmade, though the pickguard in the middle suggests most of the parts are from an actual instrument.

Complete and plays well. The finish is decent, a few nail sized dents, the binding is cracked but not unglued except for where it is chipping in two places, crack in the arch near pickups. Sounds and plays cool.

Seems a lot of the person's collection was from the 80s or earlier, based on the amount of metal stuff he had, modified like the Deluxe.

He had two of these. His brother said he made them and previously worked for Fender. Stand says 1994 and some other info.

Jupiter without hardware, seems in decent shape.

Harmony Rebel, phone died while taking photos outside. Green. Everything seems to work, though there is a crack from the jack that would need repaired.

I have wanted one of these for a long while. It will need new electronics and tuners. Any idea how to repair chipping paint in cheap wood? I don't need to fix it, but seal it so it doesn't flake.

I also got a Bradley Explorer that has no parts and has been stripped. The headstock seems warped but otherwise seems stable. I purchased parts to make it a one humbucker instrument and will stain it.

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

The Kahler might be real. They made those in the 80s. Too bad about the middle pickup, though. Eww. Also not keen on that gap where the neck tenon should be.

If those necks were really made by a Fender employee while he worked at Fender, they may have been for an intended Ritchie Sambora sig model to either lure him away from Kramer or when he was still looking for a deal.

And that doubleneck is definitely odd - J-bass pickup on a 12-string?

Stopbar on the Kasuga looks odd. Is it on backwards or are those ends really complete circles?

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

The Gibson - Pre 75 Deluxe. But no earlier than say 71 or 72 by that logo (but there was an overlap). I know there are differences in this time period with the way that the electrics channel exited into the back cavity and that you could perhaps tell a year if no original parts existed. But in terms of construction they were identical.....mahogany pancake body, 3 piece mahogany neck, transition tenon (yes, this is exactly how the trans tenon is meant to be - even the long tenons were made with glue squeezout space at the end as they knew this to be the best method to make sure the joint had the right qty of glue film once clamped), all made in Kalamazoo.

That would be a great one to keep and fill the additional routs/switchholes on. The headstock could be restored with some black epoxy fill for the screws. If you can do it and make the front solid, you might just get away with a goldtop finish like it probably had originally.

The part I suspect is stock is the neck pickup. It has a black sticker with three or four numbers on one side and three on the right.

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

Def like the potential with the Gibson and Sambora Necks could be cool if not warped, truss rods work, etc.

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

A Craptastic find. I would love to tinker with that collection

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

I got the pickups out to test them with a multimeter, but the 10729w only has RX10, RX1K, DVC 500 250 50 10 and 2.5, then AC, no 20. The minihumbucker has a black sticker that looks like 127 842 though I am finding other Gibson pickups with 842 that aren't 127. I also have no idea how to check if an EMG 58 works.

The stopbar on the Les Paul copy is closed, so unlike a real stopbar it won't come off without strings.

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

The tear drop looks a lot like a Vox and your double neck looks like an old Rickenbacker lap steel. Only with you know, two necks and not a lap steel.

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

I've been repairing guitars almost 40 years, and I'd say the LP is legit. Should be way cool with a large amount of TLC.

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

Here are photos of the Harmony. Everything seems to work, though the electronics need cleaned I believe the pickups function, the main issue being a crack at the jack.

Does anyone know what the pointy body I posted is? I thought it was a BC Rich, but some guy is messaging me threatening to get my auction removed because he doesn't believe it is.

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

after seeing the LP..1st thought.. As long as there is nothing majorly wrong with it structurally.. Id fill in the trem ,'pup, control holes and put a quilted top on it.. rerout it for 2 hum or p90's..

Would love to see a thread on that one!!!

I don't know what it is,but it's definitely not BC Rich. The shape looks like a mashup of their Wave / Warlock / Ignitor, but doesn't really match any of them. Likewise I've never seen a BC Rich with that control config, or the three holes in the neck pocket. Likewise BC Rich doesn't paint their neck pockets. My best guess is that it's something MIJ or MIK from the 80s, but I don't have the slightest idea what.

Virgin?
Don't really recall...

Not seeing any bridge thingies, maybe it was from the same guy who had teh Sambora necks(yum!)?

Are those necks Floyd cut?

Kinda diggin' the Doubleneck in an odd way...
:/

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

Not a Virgin body. Horns would be longer, rear wouldn't have a cutout.

And the fact there's no bridge holes of any kind indicates a home-made project that lost interest, probably when the guy realized he should have located the bridge before clearing it.

What does the back look like? Control cavities are generally unique identifiers.

Re: I got a dozen vintage projects

I'm pretty sure I've seen that pointy body for sale through GFS Factory Buyout Clearance section before, but they don't have any right now. They often don't have holes drilled for the bridge on them.
