I GOT MY MESA! + 4x12 question

I got my mesa mark IV today!
IT's BEAUTIFUL!

However, I need to get the transformer changed - Will happen this week.

I saw a 4x12 today for sale...
It had 4 vintage 30's and was a 'Wasp' from the 70's. Apparently in the 80's vintage 30's were put with it and a 90's band gigged with it then in 98 it was sold to this music store.
They pulled it out of storage last week and wired it up and its cool as.
I played it today and was impressed.
Thinking of buying, lots of scuffs, slightly torn grille cloth and alot of tears on the tolex.
Should I buy for 340 USD? (450 AUD)

I'd probably pass on that one, but put out an ad for a 4-12 wanted. You'd be surprised how many guys have one, but have no use for it. Mesa or Marshall 4-12 Wanted' should get you some replies.

Glad you liked your score Grandor!
Let me hear you tone in great awe.
Send me running to the shore,
but that Mesa tone keeps me coming back for more!

... that was terrible ... I'm sorry :laugh2:

But, anyways, glad you like it :D

Re: I GOT MY MESA! + 4x12 question

Yeah sounds a bit high to me for the age and wear. You can buy a brand new MESA 1x12 recto cab for about the same $. I would look around, you should be able to get a good Marshall/Mesa 4x12 for not much more $ in better shape.

Heck you can buy the Marshall MG cabs, Line 6 and Randall celestion loaded cabs brand new for around 350 to 500 smackers (US).

And don't overlook older Laney cabs. I had an 1989/90-ish Laney 2x12 Celestion cab (can't member which speakers) that was half the price of the Marshall 2x12s and was just as good IME for sound (they are not built as well, but I wasn't touring, so  ;) )

Re: I GOT MY MESA! + 4x12 question

The thing is,
I wont have my avatar until late feb.
I have 4 shows to do between now and then. I wont have a cab, I will have to use either my v-amp thru another amp or a friends 4x12 (hard on the friend).

However an Avatar 4x12 new for me would run 650AUD but would take 2 months to arrive.
Used Marshall/Mesa's go for about 800-1200AUD here.
So a 450 AUD cab like that is considered pretty good.

Ahh..I see. Then I think "yeah"..you need somethin now and if you can swing the $, and it sounds good and is structurally OK tho a little "beat" to look at , then it seems like a good idea to me.

Re: I GOT MY MESA! + 4x12 question

Yep.
I dont know what to do damnit!
I dont really want to spend the money, and the logical side of me says "wait 2 months and just get an avatar. You'll like it in the long run!"
