Can anyone tell me about this? That litel windw is tiny. Is it worth trying to learn about this or should I get somthing else to try and record with my limited skills and rudimentary knowledge of devices and how to read technical instructions and stuff? I really envy you tech saavy guyz!

Re: I got Scam'ed

Did your purchase include the Owner's Manual? If not, try downloading a .pdf copy from the TEAC/TASCAM website.

Re: I got Scam'ed

^ I was surprised to learn that owners manuals are no longer included in most gear. The original owner did copy the entire manual and included it w/ purchase.
What I think i really need is a young good looking nudefemale model who knows all about recording to spend some time trying to teach my stupid kid brain about how to try and use this.

The product packaging should give some clues about the capabilities of the machine - or, in truth, its limitations.

You have yourself a handy home demo recorder for one or two players. Layer up guitar and vocal parts. Mix the results to stereo. Burn to CD. Present to fellow band members for song/arrangement development.

Unfortunately, nude female recording tutors are scarce. Some societies believe that they can cause earthquakes in sacred locations.

cool - I love stand alone units. usually you just need to arm a track, plug into the correct input, make sure the level is OK, and hit record. you may need to read up to find out how to clear out whatever is on there.

Re: I got Scam'ed

I've got an old Zoom MRS-1044 CD that's pretty similar. I used it to record my guitar tracks for my band's CD a while ago. They're a hell of a lot simpler to work with than computer based recording software (for me at least..). Things are a bit daunting at first but get easier as you go along. If you have the manual handy you'll probably get used to stuff pretty quick.

Re: I got Scam'ed

Think of it as 8 tape recorders. Once you figure out how to set the punch in points, allowing you to fix mistakes, you'll have the jist of the whole thing within an hour.

Quite often, simpler is better.

Do you have a drum machine?

Re: I got Scam'ed

I have a drum machine, a old DD-7.. but I just sold the Tascam on ebay for 50 bucks more than I paid for it.Hopefully all goes well with the sale. But no way I'd ever figure the Tascam thing out .No way I am smart enuf to do any recording at all by myself. The funny thing is I have all kinds of old vintage tape machines including a 8 track Teac, and I couldn't ever do anything with those either.
Pro tools /Eleven rack? Forget about it. Way beyond my skill level.
I have a nice awesome 1000.00 rack set up,-forgot what its called though, and may be able to record some stuff straight onto computer.

Re: I got Scam'ed

I have a Roland MV8800 sampler/sequencer that does 8 tracks of audio. I like hardware stuff like that. Previous computer recording for almost 15 years and do some ipad multitracking for last two years also. Recording on any system can be intimidating unless you like to dig into manuals or watch tutorials. For many its too much work. I totally understand it though. In my field of IT with computers and networking euipment, I rely on the complexities being too much for most people, hence the need for my services. Its not for everyone, but hey, just grab someone you know that does like that sort of thing.

Good luck and if it stops being fun, then its not the right one.

Re: I got Scam'ed

When we first started recording, years ago, I used a Tascam 4 track that used standard cassettes. It's just a matter of setting your eq and levels for four separate mikes or instruments. Bouncing can get a bit tricky, but otherwise keep your meters just out of the red (or just into them if you want a hot mix) for analog and slightly less for digital. Digital clipping is NOT nice.
