Re: i got the $600 bucks what amp????????
I'm not going to tell you to not get a 5150 but just know that EVH's tone was amazing because he cranked his amps. Supposedly that's why the 5150 is more trebly than the Marshalls he used...he killed his high end hearing from cranking his amps and needed extra treble to compensate for the loss.
Either way if you want real bad ass metal tone (IMO) you have to get a M/B Mark series amp. I hear LOG uses Mk IV's anyway....that's where I'd start. It'll cost you more but I think it would be worth it.
I agree. The thing that most people here seem to forget is that tube amps are made to be turned up. I'd like to know where you fellas crank your 120W 5150's. I gotta agree with theodie on this one. At low volumes when you can't *feel* the amp (like when it's cranked) they sound the same.theodie said:I would bet you that I could put you in a room blind folded, I would play 2 different amps (one tube and one not but, you wouldnt know this) and I bet you would say they were both tube amps! I could probally do the samething with 2 different solid state or modeling amps and you would still say that they are tube amps!
