Yes, I honestly think you could get close to that tone, or at least close enough for what you need. It'll get that nice, ultra defined crunch tone. They actually use very little gain, as well. Listen to that clip though, that's a good representation of the tone when used right. Kind of thick, though.

dss are all the 5051 eddie van halen edition?? if not whats the difference between the regular and the van halen?

Re: i got the $600 bucks what amp????????

From your forum name ("lambofgod") and your price range why would you consider anything other than a Peavey 5150?

I mean, id still use a Peavey 5150 if i had enough money to buy whatever i wanted, the Peavey 5150 is about as metal as metal gets.

All the Peavey 5150's are Van halen, the new Peavey 6505 are not, but they are exactly the same amp just without the van halen name.

Re: i got the $600 bucks what amp????????

All of them did.

Well... The very first ones had block lettering that said EVH, after that it's his signature.

The 5150 IS EVH's signature amp.

Also, for god's sake, please use some grammar.

im sorry dude :guilty:

Re: i got the $600 bucks what amp????????

lol dss.. but yea i think you should go the way of a 5150. You need an amp that has blow your head off distortion, dont settle for an amp that needs a pedal unless you want it to do everything.

No special editions, but there ARE 2 versions of the amp, can´t remember exactly what the differences are, though.... I think the ones with the Block lettering are the older ones...;)

I would bet you that I could put you in a room blind folded, I would play 2 different amps (one tube and one not but, you wouldnt know this) and I bet you would say they were both tube amps! I could probally do the samething with 2 different solid state or modeling amps and you would still say that they are tube amps!

Re: i got the $600 bucks what amp????????

5150 is the best well priced metal amp stock.

Line 6 hd147 is also a very good choice, versatility, good price, and sounds good at lower volumes too.

I also suggest the traynor 50blue.

Re: i got the $600 bucks what amp????????

My friend owns a 5150 too. It has to be blast at high volume in order to obtain its maximum capability.
Not to mention it comes with 2x12". At room volume, perhaps the sound is just alright, acceptable

Re: i got the $600 bucks what amp????????

What's the deal with the block letter myth? All the Metal kids I know claim that it isn't a 5150 if it isn't block letter.

I know the Peavey added an extra preamp tube along the way to enchance it's sagging clean channel (the feature they say killed the signature gain tone), but I don't remember exactly when.

as far as I know, all 5150's are the same. What you are referring to might be the 5150 II which doesn't sound as good.

Actually, it's more of a feel than sound issue for me, and I've tried that exact trick before.

The old, block letter versions are supposedly better... Andy Sneap and I both agree that this is just a myth. While the amps will sound better, it's no more different than one production amp will sound different from one of the same model; there will always be variances between amps.
