I got the AD60VTX!!!

Re: I got the AD60VTX!!!

You got it. I'm probably going to try a few different brands like Mullard, Ruby, GT for the 12AX7. Already got the 12AT7 coming, so that will get a shot as well.

Re: I got the AD60VTX!!!

I'm going to have the try that tonight as well. I've got some Telefunken, RCA and Sylvania 12at7's sitting in a drawer somewhere. I'll record some samples tonight of the experiment.

That would be great. I'd love to hear the opinion of someone on this forum who actually did this. Hopefully I'll have my tubes in a few days

Darrin...You may prove me wrong, but my feelings are that anything you think you hear, will be the placebo effect of changing a tube? I'd like to know your findings? An exact setting recording would be cool and might tell us something?

Re: I got the AD60VTX!!!

Hey Guys,

A little help please. I seemed to have been left high and dry on a cry for help. I posted several help questions back in the "Vox Valvetronix Help" thread. If you want to help please see question 63 which can be found below.

+++++++++++++++

I realize that this is a fast pace forum. I was out of town last week and this thread went from #36 to #60 while I was gone.

I requested some help and/or advice back on numbers 27, 30, and 36. I did get feed back from some users, but I am still confused about the settings and quirks on using an electric amplifier. If some of you would like to help me out on a few issues, it would be greatly appreciated.

Again the thread number were #27, #30 and #36. I did link to the patchtronic patch section, but the settings are for the larger VOX amplifiers. They do not seem to hit the mark for the smaller AD15VT amp.

Thanks again for all who help.

Hello buddy....I'll re-read through the posts and see if I can answer some of your questions....

Hi Tim--

I've read your posts and after messing a little with the amp, her are the settings I have for a real nice clean sound. Now remember I have the AD60VTX but I set it on 15 watts to try and simulate your amp and I used a stratocaster. I think you only have one input, so I plugged into my high input. I used the compressor with drive and level at 11 o'clock. Tweed 4x10 amp, gain at 10:00, volume at 5:00, treble at 3:00, middle at 3:00, bass at 3:00, presence at 5:00 and master at 2:00. With the compressor off it loses volume. Cranking any of the volumes or the gain knob higher resulted in distortion. At 15 watts, if you are trying to get louder than the amp can give you that's where you may be losing the tone and gaining the overdrive. I can only assume. I picked and hard strummed and got a nice clean sound with these settings. When I hard strummed I turned the volume on the guitar down JUST a tad. Hope this helps.

It stinks being in an area wher you're one of the only guitarists. The couple I met up with later seemed to be in the same situation I was in and really didn't know much about things. If I knew then etc..., LOL.

Re: I got the AD60VTX!!!

Ok,

Thanks guys. I think I finally waved you down to sub-hyper speed enough to get your attention. :smack:

From what I have read so far, it seems I may have the gain and volume too high. The book and others said to just turn them up. So I did. I will continue to watch for more advice. I have off Friday (Veterans Day for some of us). I will be experimenting with all suggestions given.

Why didn’t I try this when I was younger and more smarter?

The Valvetronix was definitely a hot topic for awhile. All my fault I'm afraid. I've only had mine for 2 1/2 days so I wanted to play around with it a little before offering up some advice, but man the posts were piling up, weren't they? If I get a chance I'm going to play some with the Black 2x12 also. See if I can get you some settings there as well. Friday will probably be my day to play too.

Re: I got the AD60VTX!!!

Well all this talk got me all wound up so...

I grabbed a GT 12AX7R and swapped the tube in my AD15, very noticable difference. It is a slightly lower gain tube with a little more edge but it really opened up several of the models, most notably the Fenders and the AC30TB. The Dire Straits sounds were inspiring now instead of close, that alone made the effort worth while. I also found the Dumble OD really stepped it up a notch as well especially using my neck pickup, I was Mick Taylor there for a moment. I also ordered a new 8" speaker from Weber to try, Ted recommended the ceramic Signature 8S, he also thought the 8F125 would be good but space would be very tight. I figured for about $40 between tube and speaker it was worth messing around with since I love this little amp so much.

Well that's cool news...

Awesome!!! I've got a GT 12AX7-M on the way. It's supposedly an exact copy of the old Mullard tubes. Got a Ruby 12AX7A as well as the NOS Mullard 12AT7 on the way too. Now let's see if I can get the tubes in and out without breaking them, hee hee. I'm hauling this monster (glad it's not the 2X12!) down two flights of stairs now to put it through my 4X12 cabs. I'll let you know how many discs I pop on the way down.

Re: I got the AD60VTX!!!

Well get a load of this. Seems like the GC salesman either lied or didn't know what he was talking about. I asked him if the metal grill amps and the cloth grill amps were the same quality of models and he said no, the cloth grill versions are higher quality. Here is an email I got from Vox. I asked them this question weeks ago.

----------------------------------------------------

Hello Mario,

The AD50VT and AD60VTX employ the same REMS modeling technology and
proprietary Valve Reactor. So the actual quality of the amp models is
equivalent, but there are some variables (i.e. speakers) that will
result in slightly different tonality between the amps.

I hope this is of some help, please let me know if you have any further
inquiries.

How about them apples? I'm going to keep the AD60VTX but if I got this info last week, I may have bought the AD30VT instead and saved $520
