Re: I Got The Cutest Little Practice Amp Tonight!!!

That's a great Craigslist score. You KNOW someone else would have snapped it up, if you hadn't. You should plug into a stereo pedal, and run your Trace Velocette and the Champ in stereo. 6V6 and EL-84 in stereo sounds.....well, you tell us!

According to the seller when I got there he had received over 30 emails, mostly from tire-kickers and folks asking questions a non-guitar guy would never know the answer to. It was his Dads, and I gathered he had passed recently. He mentioned that he'd been unloading vintage gear on CL for a few weeks which I swear I recall seeing a few things of that cliber that normally don't pop up.

In stereo with the Velocette would be VERY cool! I never even thought of that! Best of both worlds and at a reasonable volume!

Congratulations, you miserable bastard. Why doesn't my local craigslist have anything great like that? I hate you so much!

Tried any pedals in front of it yet?

There must be at least a dozen gearhounds in the Boston area cursing my name this morning.

Np pedals...not yet. I need to consult with some folks about what should or may need to be done to it as far as making it safe electrically. It still has a two-prong cord. I'm inclined to keep it as original as possible but I want to play it and not be concerned about offing myself when I plug in.

That little thing has some mojo.... :) How does she sound?

Like....God. Like....she sounds like the way I've tried every damned amp I've owned with the Fender logo on it to sound! I could have sworn I was a Blackface guy!!!!

I haven't even had a chance to crank it over at home. Last night my son had a fever of 105 and its just been life in crisis mode. The short span of sanity has been me coming on here and a single cup of coffee!

Daaaammmmm I want one of them so bad... though in the UK they're as rare as bigfoot. And as expensive too. Congrats on great taste! How easy are those 8 pins preamp tubes to find?

Tubes are usually pretty easy to find....but tend to get expensive VERY quickly!

I'm with RD on this one. (Did I just say that?) I too hate your guts with a passion. In fact, you're now on my list of people not to piss on if they are on fire... ;)

Beautiful! That thing is so simple you could darn near build a clone from your pics.

Wait for a couple of the true amp-guru's to back me up, (or poo-poo me), on this, but I believe you could just use a small auto-transformer to run it through. That would give you isolation and, by dialing it down, get the "brown sound". ;)

Re: I Got The Cutest Little Practice Amp Tonight!!!

I'd just get a 3-prong cord and solder the black end where the black wire goes and the white where the other end goes. The green gets bolted to one of the studs holding the transformer onto the chassis.

That's IIRC though. I'd wait for blessings from teh amp gurus before proceeding.

Took a second look at the pics. You're two prong cord doesn't have any colors on it does it? Brown is all you've got. I'd think the side coming into the fuse would be the hot side and the other must be the neg/ground. Hard to say though. Definitely need an experienced eye on this one as I'm unsure which is the neg terminal and which is the positive.

I appreciate the instructional but there is no way I'm going to fire up a soldering iron anywhere near this amp.

If I've ever owned a peice of gear that is necessary to be put in the hands of professionals, this one is it.

If I can get some alone time this weekend I might break my long-standing run and actually record some clips.

What is about these old amps that is SO cool. The total simplicity of the design and circuit is amazing. I have been looking at the pics over & over & over again.

You must be one VERY happy camper.

Can you imagine what Fender would charge if they reissued that amp (same build and specs...only with 3 prong grounded cord).

MAN, that is such a cool amp. ENJOY!!

Re: I Got The Cutest Little Practice Amp Tonight!!!

what is the chassis made of? what type of bread board. ima try and clone one of these while my wrist is broken

Re: I Got The Cutest Little Practice Amp Tonight!!!

I wouldn't rewire the cord.

I would bet that amp has never been worked on, and I wouldn't want to be the one to affect the value of a '54 amp in original condition.

don't take my word though ... get an expert amp tech's advice

Re: I Got The Cutest Little Practice Amp Tonight!!!

I'd have the cord redone, but save the origninal just in case.

Let us know the next time you're going out of town, I'll be sure to "guard" it for you. ;)

Good score.

Heh...I was informed by my brother that he'd be more than happy to look after it when I get bored with it...or if I think I may be getting bored with it....

Awfully nice of him!!!

It's funny though...I almost feel like I should have a road case or something to store it in! Seems so overkill though....
