I hate Load In / Load Out of Amps and stuff

Re: I hate Load In / Load Out of Amps and stuff

Here is a question:

Would you give up your gig pay if you had a roadie to move and setup all your equipment?

Is it worth it?

In the days when I had a guitar tech he typically walked away from the gig with more money than me. Yes, it was worth it.

Re: I hate Load In / Load Out of Amps and stuff

Back in the day I worked for one of the biggest sound co's in NYC. It seemed every morning a 53 footer was waiting for us to unload and every evening one to load out. Literally TONS of equipment.
I'm now retired with degenerative disc disease.
Anyone remember the stairs up to Max's Kansas City? Me and another kid had to carry a Hammond B3 with a Leslie up and down those mothers for a gig after we hadn't eaten for 2 days. That was a rough one.lol
PC

I have a few mates in Wisconsin that are, or have been full time sound reinforcement guys. It's not something one can do a long time without serious physical side effects, a young man's game for sure. The one that is doing fine physically these days got into PAC management after several years of humping PA systems, for that very reason.

Having done that part time, I don't blame him!

As to the OP, I guess I really didn't mind hauling gear over the years. Half stacks and a PA were pretty much the norm to haul, and we somehow made it into a good time! I operate these days with a smaller rig, and the proliferation of at least adequate house PA systems has helped ease the load also.

Re: I hate Load In / Load Out of Amps and stuff

hey OP, right there with ya ... i stopped playing guitar about 16 months ago for exactly that reason ... i would wake up on gig days already dreading load in / out ... i had my personal round trip down to a single trip each way (small pedal board in its bag with a strap on one shoulder, gig bag in one hand, 1x12" combo in the other, and double gig bag on the other shoulder) ... but i'd have to help set up / tear down / load out of the lights and PA ... with a bad back/ i'd be useless the day after ... and yeah, i'd play for free and give 100% of my share of the gig pay to a roadie to do all my work if i could

cool brutha, I am sure you will get back in it when bandmates do the lifting and you use your light rig

if I remember correctly, you had the 112 dual cabs

I am thinking of selling my Orange 212PPC that is super bulky and weighs 62 pounds, and replacing it with Orange 212OB cabs and converting them to closed back cabs and putting in neodymium tonkerlite speakers.

I don't have any physical injuries or problems but I dont want any, and my cab sounds great, but tone just is not worth it!

I wanna be playing my big rig for 20 more years before I downsize to a tiny combo amp. I am gonna have to save up for the purchase though, so Ill prolly just play my bass rigs for the time being, they are super lightweight and extremely big and loud :)

here is what Dankstar was talking about, my bass rig: https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?251523-NCD-My-Full-Stack-Rigz-of-DOOM!-(pic-and-clip)

If you're me, you can just get your entourage to do it for you. Doubles as time for me to score smack behind the venue.

Re: I hate Load In / Load Out of Amps and stuff

My cabinet weighs ~80lbs. (and being 40"x30", it's a ****ing ***** to carry, no matter how you do it. I need to bring a dolly to gigs)

My head weighs ~50lbs.

My pedalboard weighs ~45lbs.

My two guitars are ~30lbs in the cases.

Plus, my road case of cables/wah/expression pedals... ~20lbs.

I can fit it all in a Chevy Aveo.

Come on, OP. Man up.
