You could actually do that by wallpapering your room and door with grounded, conductive foil, and putting grounded screens in your windows. Potential downsides include total loss of cell phone reception, upsides include blocking government mind-control rays and reducing your gear's noise floor.

Added bonus - when thermonuclear war happens and everyone else's electronics all get fried to snot by EMPs, yours will be fine.
