1) I want a new bridge pickup for my American Special that's more high output but I don't know much about strat pickups (singles) so please help me out I need more output then my Texas special (I am only changing the bridge)

2) is it bad to have more then one strat? Lol I want another since I just love Strats so much what do you think? Not the exact same but a Strat in general...

Quarter Pounder in the bridge. In my number 1, I have a Quarter Pounder in the bridge matched with 2 Texas Specials and the guitar sounds great.

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

Well you have a couple different options.

Are you looking for a hotter single?
Do you want a Single coil size humbucker?
How much hotter do you want the bridge to be?

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

Well I don't want like an invader but I don't want a Texas special lol I don't want to change pickguards for a humbucker since I don't have much money as it is so a hotter single is good I was thinking a hot rail, hot stack or quarter pound

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

Hi OP,

I think Rockstar216 brings a very valid question to the table.

Are you looking for a straight up singl coil pickup or are you looking for a hotter pickup in a single coil size?? ...because you can get anything you want in a single coil size these days.

Also...question #2. If you are willing to call a hotrodded Hello Kitty strat a STRAT, then I have 4 Strats and I am not sorry.

Buy what you like and play what you like...then you die...who cares what people think.

Rock out,

~LD

1)DiMarzio Chopper or Fast Track II

2)Hell no,that's one of the beauties about Strats.
I've got 4-6(couple still in "project" mode)...;)

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

If you are looking for a much warmer true single coil with a bit more output, the Antiquity II Texas Hot custom bridge is pretty great. Way warmer than the texas special. I personally hate the texas special bridge, but like the antiquity.

If you are looking for a single sized humbucker, I love seymour duncan's hot rails in strats. They would have a lot more output than the single coils you have in there now though, so they may be a bit more than you are looking for. I haven't actually tried any other single sized hums in a strat bridge, so I'm not much more help there...

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

I am reading these don't worry I am and I am considering everything! Keep posting I will look at them all

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

I typically don't like hotter bridge pickups (even the ones in sets) because they mess with the #2 position - and I like a twangier bridge pickup.

There is the option of a tapped pickup if you want your cake and eat it too - hotter bridge only with an option for the traditional combo sound .

And no, Strats are like potato chips. In my case I can't do with just one. ;) Some would say that about other makes/models.

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

I'm not looking for a volcano I am just looking for something a little hotter not steaming just something a little better then my Texas Special I find it sounds to bright for a bridge imo

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

I agree that the Texas specials are too bright for the bridge. I got extra unlucky with mine: it clocks in at an extra low 6.48 k resistance. If you don't want a volcano, I take back my recommendation for the hot rails. They are pretty darned hot...

I'm currently also looking to replace a Texas special bridge for largely the same reason as you. The neck pickup is so nice, but the bridge is miserable for what I want...

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

What about a Tone Zone S or a Super D S? A hot bridge pickup like those would work well for a multitude of genres, so you can keep the traditional Strat versatility.

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

The ssl 5 (or 6, or STK 6 if you want noiseless) is a good medium between volcano and vintage. That would be my go-to for what you seem to want.

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

a tie between Dimarzio Tone Zone (single) or SSL 5 ok... convince me which is better now XD

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

So, do you like oranges or mandarins better???

Dimarzio will sound different than SD - DMZ had a midsy bark, SD not quite so much.

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

I am getting the Dimarzio Tone Zone S thanks for all you're help people :) (I will leave the thread open for a little bit maybe a week or so) Thanks

Re: I have 2 questions both about Fender Stratocasters

One thing about the TZs is that I believe its 4 conductor so you can wire it up so it auto splits in the notch position and you now have a HBer sound added in the bridge position.
