I have 2 questions for Peavey Delta Blues owners....

I should be able to play the amp beforehand but suppose I don't....

1. How much gain is on tap? Like AC/DC or what?



2. I play mostly british and chicago blues which is either clean or slightly overdriven but occasionally I play some heavy stuff... I am sorta leaning towards the 115 but people talk about the speaker getting flubby for metal... Say I had a good booster that got me up to the gain levels of Black Sabbath, would it be a muddy mess or would it be fine? Should I get the 210 version?

Why not go Classic head/Cab? I like the Delta for the tremolo but there are other ways of getting it.

I may end up getting a C30. I don't know but I do kinda want tremolo. I want to be able to have a guitar -> amp only rig.

If you get the DB invest in one of the tube protector screens you'll find on eBay and a few other spots. The tubes are exposed and you will break them easily.

The big 15" is a cool speaker if you are doing CCR, if you are going for a heavier Rock sound a 15 can be tough to deal with. You'll have plenty of bottom especially at lower volumes but it isn't the best for getting good tight over driven sounds in my limited experience with them.

I'd probably get the 2x10 combo if it was my main amp, if it is adding to your arsenal well then I guess the 15" would be pretty cool, they can get real greasy and swampy and that trem can be pretty wide sounding. One reason I like the head is you can get whatever bottom(s) you want plus a small piggyback rig ideally holds up better than a combo since the guts don't get rattled around as bad.

btw I am as impressed as all hell that you have PG as your avatar, at 18 I had no clue who he was.

There's some crazy things you can do with a big speaker. Hitting it with a treble boost has a pretty different feel than hitting a smaller speaker with one, as it can't reproduce the high frequencies, yet you still get enhanced harmonics.

Note that Iommi used a Rangemaster (treble booster) a lot, in early Black Sabbath... Also note that Sabbath had pretty loose bass back in the day. Not having modern metal tight bass isn't always a bad thing. Lots of Doom/Sludge/Acid metal bands would have trouble caring less about such things...

Have to say I'd probably go with a head version myself, being able to swap cabs for particular tasks is great.

i run a DB 115 in my rig.
i love the thing cuz its versital but i can say flat out, Ch2 sucks 8===D
if you do get one, swap the tubes since the stock ones are horrid
run it with the first channel only with stomp boxes.
i use a ts9 to tighten up the low-end. be careful cuz the amp is really directional (killing people with highend). its a weird amp to get used to but you can do a lot with it.

I've had the opportunity to hear a friend gigging the 1 x 15 combo a few times and I thought it was a very good sounding amp which did very well at ZZ Top 'Tush' levels of gain. Not sure how well it would cope with metal though, it's not really designed for that kind of stuff. Frobro's got a good point, you can often get better results running the clean channel only with a couple of decent o/d pedals.

ah i see... then i wouldn't do it. as much as i love it, for me, its not a stand-alone amp. you'd have to do some mods to get the amp's drive to do what you want it to do.

You won't be able to get metal type sounds with the DB going straight in. There is a lot you can do with both channels if you have the right tubes, the amp sounds great. I have a 1x15 and love it for almost everything, but I use a couple of pedals to take me where the amp doesn't naturally go. The pedals are worth the little extra investment and then you'll have a pretty versatile rig. I've had one loud enough that almost everyone else was buried and the amp just sang. They can cover a lot of ground but not to metal without a pedal.

IF you end up getting this, you should get the 115--that flub is something you want, especially for blues and sabbath. The old fenders all the blues guys got famous with had a little of that flub. Also, a lot of people (myself included) have a hard time getting enough bass on Peaveys, i dunno if it's the stock speakers or circuit or what, but I'd much rather have one with a bit too much bass than not enough

I own both SD100 Conv. and DB115. For British and Chicago blues the DB is near perfect out of the box. I dont know if I can top the SD with anything. Its totally adjustable. I have enough gain in the DB to have replaced v1 with a 12au7 . Now I can turn volume up to 7. It comes w/Sovtek el84's. Excellent clean channel. OD is good, Tremolo...not so much. Hawaiian Harmonica music may be out for me. The 15 doesn't get muddy, but it does get loud for a 30 watt amp. (I play both harp and EWI thru these amps. guitar, too, just to get an idea of the "intended" sound). Therefore, I'm no expert, Never mind. ignore that...Best to try it out 1st.

I've owned both the 1X15 & the 2X10, personally for guitar I preferred the 2X10... The 1X15 was pretty great too but I found it was easier to get the 2X10's moving some air & I didn't feel like I needed to add more bass to my signal. To me they just seemed like they held together better, sounded fuller, & less one dementioal...

Personally I like my Classic 30 1X12 better than I liked either of them so in the end it's all a matter of opinion. All of them are great, versatile, amps & I think you'd be happy with either a Delta or Classic? That said, it's definitely best if you can play before you pay!!!
