I like the stock Pup's, but won't mind having more articulation and not as rounded tone,
Am I thinking Right ????

They're great PAF replicas, but whether they will sound more articulate and less round is hard to say. There are lots of pickups, such as the Jazz, where their intention is specifically to be more articulate.

They will beat the stock Dot pickups in those areas that you mentioned.

I have a set of Seths in a Dot, excellent combination. The stock PU's in Epi Dots and Sheratons are Alnico Classic Pros, which are 'okay' but nothing great, not as good as Probuckers. Seth's are one of the world's best PAF's.

Once you put a decent set of pups into a Dot you won't know it's the same guitar. The stock pups (I believe) are both identical, and the same as the neck pup in Epi LP's. I can vouch for the Jazz in the neck. I had a JB in the bridge which was nice, too, but better suited to my LP where it resides now. The Dot is waiting on a set of P-Rails with Triple Shot rings to arrive as I type.

For a cheap guitar the Epi Dot is truly fantastic.

I'd be interested in hearing how the P-Rails turn out in the Dot. So, if you like the Jazz, why didn't you just get a different bridge? Also, in your opinion, what bridge would you put in it if you weren't getting the P-Rails?

I really liked the stock pickups that came with my Sheraton... very smooth to the point, I'd even say they were articulate. OTOH, I think it's a case of the acoustics being so good that you almost can't go wrong with whatever pickup they put in it.

I did replace them Seths anyway, because everyone said they're so awesome. They have a mid range honk to them that works great for warm blues / jazz / anything, and classic rock. But if articulate can be taken to mean "clear", perhaps the opposite of warm, I'd say the Seth lean more warm, and less clear / present / etc. But they're not just about mids, they're also vibrant... I'd say the opposite of "sterile", but that would have to be "dirty", and that's not the word I'm looking for.

I'm sort of curious to know how they compare to Whole Lotta Humbuckers, because I've seen a lot of the same adjective applied to both sets.

I have a set of Seths in a Dean Evo, and the Neck sounds so incredible Clear, almost like a Single coil, no Mid-Hump at all...
And the bridge sounds fantastic !.... I just wanna to hear from someone who had them in a Semi-Hollow Body...... The Jazz N, sounds more ,To Me,
very nice in the Highs, with a Mid- Honk and loose bass, but is in an SG, totally dif guitar......

I don't think Seths are EVER a bad or wrong answer. But I don't own any. They may not be the right answer or best either. But A Dot with a set of Serths is a righteous classic 335 guitar, IMO.

A basic pair of 59's would probably be better than the stock pups too, and as mentioned, don't rule out a Jazz SET, if articulate is what you want.

I've got a natural Epi Dot with a thick '50's neck made of mahogany (most Dot necks are maple and '60's style) with a pair of Seth's in it. What a great guitar.

'59's are usually a good choice, as long as that boomy neck issue doesn't come to visit, which it does in some 335's.

...they shouldwork pretty well!

From all th pups I've tried they are the best ones "right-out-of-the-box".
They've got great cleans and overdrive/dsitortion. Maaan... They're so sweet.

And You ca easily fine tune them with magnets over time, BUT they're almost as good as thay can stock. Diffrent magnets doesn't make them batter/worse. Just diffrent falvour.

This one came w/Mahogany neck, and That's Exactly what I try to Avoid..... That Boomy Neck...!

Because I want the P-Rails. I'm experimenting a lot at the moment while working on something and the P-Rails have certainly piqued my interest. Also, the Jazz in the LP sounds very similar to the Dot. Why have two guitars sounding similar when I can have two guitars sounding distinctly different? If I was to put something different in other than the P-Rails I'd probably go for a set of Seths or even DMZ PAF Pro's.

Can't wait for the P-Rails. Shipping from US to AU seems to take a lifetime though.

I'd have killed to have my Dot come with a 60's profile maple neck. I was under the impression that all of the Epi Dot's have 50's mahogany necks? I bought mine (Chinese build) in 2009

The 50's shape is really starting to grow on me but I still prefer the 60's maple on my LP.

Over here in the states, the maple neck is much more common than the mahogany one. The Dot I have with a mahogany neck has the thickest neck I've ever run across on an Epi, like '58 thickness. Obviously that's going to be too thick for most players, but I'm glad I found it (I'm 6'5" with big hands).

Yeah I'm 6'3" with big hands too (you know what they say about big hands? They're wrong LOL)

The neck is like a telegraph pole but as I mentioned it's growing on me. It's only taken 5 years to get used to...
