which means i'll be putting some more hybrids together. i already have plans for the screw coil, i want to use that and the screw coil from an SH-6n with an A2 mag (for starters) in the bridge of the LP. have had that idea for some time but am too cheap to pay the retail heh heh

which leaves me with another DD/JB slug coil. i've made a hybrid with a JB slug and a CC screw coil and it's awesome (i believe Will S-T has that floating around at his place somewhere), but i have this theory that the CC coil has quite a few more turns than the JB coil and that this makes it a little noisy; this and the fact that i find the customs a little congested are the main factors behind the decision to make what we'll call a DDb/DDn hybrid.

as much as i'd love to make a JB/pearly hybrid, i don't have a pearly and would be reluctant to cut one up anyway, as they rarely turn up used over here and are relatively pricey new; but a favorite of mine is the demon. i think it'll make for at least as much noise/hum as a JB/custom hybrid but i imagine the 2 coils could really work for me, tone-wise. i believe the forum member formerly known as rid has done this and enjoyed it, has anyone else tried this and/or what do you think?

I have tons of ideas for hybrids. Most of which involve expensive p'ups. Whenever I get another custom I'm gonna try a Pearly+/Custom hybrid. I'm also interested in a JB/fullshred hybrid and many more.

i had the chance to make a JB/pearly hybrid at one point, but that was quite a while back when i was thinking of it. i didn't do it though, and now the jb is gone anyways. either way, i'd love to hear about the ddb/ddn/a2 combo once you get it in

it is here! and both coils are ok, on teh meter... bwah ha ha ha.

i'm hearing interest in the full shred and JB hybrid; i'm going to do this with trembuckers, albeit with a custom and not a full shred...

definitely doing the JB/DDn one; any advice on the other option ie demon or otherwise? i've already made a JB/custom.

In an LP, it's pretty sweet sounding. I did this to my DDn, and it was a VAST improvement over stock. It's still high output, but it gets rid of the overpowering vowel-like quality that the DDn had. It adds some sweetness to the highs and a little more girth to the lows while making the power a little more manageable. I'm a pretty big fan right now...

I've got a few ideas for GFS hybrids because they sound nice and are cheap. Sorry to hijack the thread, but what do you guys think about a crunchy pat/vintage 59 combo? Also I'm very curious about the Distortion hybrid.

i've tried it with the big ceramic in the bridge and quite liked it as an all-rounder/hot PAF, in the LP it was like a cross between a JB2 and a ceramic custom; before i mess it up i'll be trying it in the neck with a weakened A5 mag.

if the amount of wax in the GFS p/ups i've seen is standard, i wouldn't be doing the surgery in your lougeroom tho
