I hope none of you waste your money on Monster Rock cables...

I was having a "tone issue" and it turned out that it was the twelve foot length of Monster Rock between my pedal board and the amp..... :smack: The board has a buffer on it. Replaced the cable and my rig sounds fine. And, there is nothing wrong with the Monster cable - other than it's a POS.

That is all. Carry on.

Are you sure you didn't have it plugged in backwards? I hear the electrons flow better in one direction in those Monster cables... ;)

Re: I hope none of you waste your money on Monster Rock cables...

Ahhh . . . Monster cables. Never has so much marketing worked so well for such an average product.

Re: I hope none of you waste your money on Monster Rock cables...

It still blows my mind that people obsess over so many things in gear, but still use sub standard cables.

Re: I hope none of you waste your money on Monster Rock cables...

Very Often we ignore the cable. I have had issues like these in the past. Noise to be precises. And the funny thing is it happened only between one guitar and one cable. The same cable did not give issues with another guitar. At first I though grounding issues. And double checked and rechecked. Finally I used another cable and bang no noise.

i like nice cables but i never liked monster. rock cable, bass cable, acoustic cable...just give me a nice cable with even response.

Re: I hope none of you waste your money on Monster Rock cables...

Thanx for the head's up,tho!!!

My kid works at Best Buy so he buys me Monster Cables for random gifts. The best Buy discount is cost+5% I think he pays around $10 per cable. What a markup on those things.

The only two Monster cables I ever bought was when I worked at an electronics retailer, for the same reason as above.

Why do you think the stores push them so hard?

this is 100% true. it's not just monster though. i know guitar center employees who get $60 mogami cables for around $15.

My experience with monster cables is also not positive. I bought 2 at the same time on sale but both are so microphonic it's CRAZY. Running them into a high gain amp like my Zinky you can actually HEAR the cable moving across the stage through the speaker and if you drop it you actually hear it when it hits the floor trough the speaker.
That is with BOTH the monster guitar cables I have. NEVER again will I buy a monster guitar cable.

Wow, I thought it was just me. I got my first monster cables when I got my splawn (cable to run from head to cab) and it started failing after just a couple uses. Ive had the crummy cables that come with epi (and other brand) guitars last for years. Guess they are all hype huh?

Re: I hope none of you waste your money on Monster Rock cables...

I have to say I haven't had any problems so far with my Monster Cables but I definitely would not buy them at retail prices. For $10 it is a "good" cable. My son is leaving Best Buy in August I just might load up before he leaves.

Re: I hope none of you waste your money on Monster Rock cables...

Cables are a huge part of our sound that we completely neglect. For a little while I was wondering why my tone was so sterile and dull since I placed a few pedals between my guitar and amp. At first I thought it was just poor true bypass in the pedals, so one day in a fit of frustration I unplugged the pedalboard and plugged myself in directly to the second patch cord only to find that the crappy tone was still there. I compared the budget Stagg cable causing the dull sound to a Fender cable I've had for years and it was like night and day. I'm not even advising that Fender makes particularly amazing cables, but having a poor one can be a huge hit on your sound.

I really want to try some high end ones, George L and whatnot. I don't think good cables can make your rig sound better than it should, but they'll sure as hell make it sound like it's supposed to.

Re: I hope none of you waste your money on Monster Rock cables...

I have no complaints. I had 2 that lasted me for many many years. Before Monster I bought the store brand cables, and they always resulted in bad plugs that needed re-soldering, the rubber cover would dry rot, the shrink wrap cover would stretch, they were noisy and all failed.

The first Monsters I got served me for many years. They were built sturdy- a lot better than what I was used to. Sure they were pricey but they lasted.

Then I put together a pedalboard and used George L connectors, a Pedalsnake, buffers, and one single guitar cable going into my pedalboard- a Mogami.

My rig sounds 1000% better, but it's also because I dumped the Monster cables when I upgraded my entire rig, so who knows if Monster cables made that much of a difference. I think there's more to worry about with the 14 pedals wired up with George L's- which sound perfect.

My point is cables are waaaayyyy better than they used to be years ago. Even the house brand cable today can be good enough

Re: I hope none of you waste your money on Monster Rock cables...

I cannot complain either. I had a monster gold for 3 years and the plug broke on one end. Decided to try something else, and it totally harshed my tone out. Bought another Monster Gold, got my tone back.... been 2 years now, no issues. I had George L before that first Monster Gold and prefer the Monster Gold.

Absolutely, TimmyPage.

Those of you who don't see the problem with Monster cables: I also didn't have a problem until I bought some better cables. The Monsters were better than the no-name cables I had been using, but especially at longer lengths, the lack of quality in the Monsters becomes more and more apparent. Muddy mids, harsh treble....... Monster only advertises 95% coverage in their shielding which is really low for an unbalanced cable.

Securb, why would you stock up on $hit? I don't get it... OK OK Monster > Hosa or no-name Chinese low-cost garbage, and I know it is hard to find GREAT QUALITY cables sometimes.

$30 for 3 quality backup cables with a lifetime guarantee is a deal. As I said above I have had no problems with them I just think they are overpriced.

But they're NOT quality. They're cheap even if you got them for free. Until you compare a cable that costs as much or more than a Monster and is priced with very little markup (like making your own), you don't even know... :D

What cables did you replace them with? George L? I'm considering getting new cables, more of a length distribution reason though, so better cables over all is also a good idea. Tangle resistant cables would be good too, if such a thing really exists.
