I Just Bought This Beautiful Strat!

I do not know why all the Internet pictures show this as a greyish color but it is basically pearl white. There is no grey to it. It is such a beauty I cannot stop looking at it. Before buying I examined every single detail of this guitar. It is flawless and the kind of quality you would EXPECT from Fender American. The tinted maple neck is so much nicer than the 50s reissues or any of the others I have tried.

Trust me, the first things to go are the TexMex pickups. The pickups I found cheap are only in black so I'm thinking about chaning the pickguard. What kind of pickguard do you think goes good with pearl white?

Re: I Just Bought This Beautiful Strat!

gold. it'd go well with the neck. black pups. or maybe white still...

Tort wouldn't :P

Why don't you play it for a week and then start trying to figure out what you need to replace based on necessity rather than some notion that modifying it will give you some sense of approval or cred from an online community?

Do I detect a bit of jealousy? LOL. :32: This is the 4th Strat in my guitar collection and I have been playing for many years. I think I am a bit past the need for approval by now, thanks.

*spins chair around and peruses the wall*

Uh....no.

You likely have nothing I could possibly be jealous of.

Then why did you post in the first place?

Re: I Just Bought This Beautiful Strat!

I'd replace the bucker before anything else. Fender singles always seem to be at least satisfactory.

I can't say the same for their humbuckers.

Because your post seemed abrasive and a little insulting to my intelligence. If you are cool with other people they will be cool with you too :smokin:

Not the Tex-Mex singles. They are noisy and sound cheap. I hate them. The stock humbucker might stay. It's an alnico 2 pickup with a balanced EQ so it might just work for me, or at least until I can find a super deal on a replacement pickup.

Well, my sig has stood as a running testament to that for awhile now....

Why don't you explain what it is tonally you don't like about the Tex-Mex pickups or the humbucker and what you are looking for more or less of in a decision?

You seem to be digging as if you've doled out this money for a perfectly good guitar that you are just longing to have a forum consensus about what should be done to it as if paying for those modifications is going to win you some sort of approval or rating that will make you belong, make you feel accepted and part of a group.

I never understood this mindset of getting a guitar and gutting it before you've really had a chance to know what it is capable of in its native form, even if JUST for a reference for what you should be heading towards in regards to mods based on what it is now.

Some of the best guitars I own came to me with the idea in my head that i would do all this work to them to somehow bring them up to my spec, only to find that after a few weeks of playing that they were indeed perfect as is and I was only throwing away money by doing anything but leaving them in the exact condition which they came to me.

Now that I understand what you are wanting to know perhaps I can clear up the confusion. With a guitar like this you can do so much. One reason I really like Strats is because of all the things you can do to them :naughty: I have been playing long enough to know that most guitars come with pickups you will want to replace. Most likely you find guitars that have the wood, bridge, tuners, etc.. but there is something that just does not completely satisfy you.

I bought this thing with the intention of installing some good thick sounding humbucking singles. Pretty soon I will install Schaller locking tuners too. I also want to change the pickguard to give my new Strat a more unique look. Something a little more fitting to my personality. So there you have it in simple terms. Without getting into the messy details of what I do not like about the stock singles I can tell you this.

I have exhaustively compared the Stock American pickups that come on the SSS Strats and the TexMex singles that come with the HSS Strats. The TexMex pickups sound like cheap garbage in comparison. They are noisy and fizzy and I hate the way they sound quite frankly. I also do not think they match the humbucker very well. I might actually keep the humbucker but that is yet to be determined.

I like to share this stuff with my new forum friends because there is a lot of knowledge in this place for people who are willing to listen. Sometimes the forum bros have great ideas that I can use so there ya go. This forum is a great resource for musicians who do not already know everything.

Re: I Just Bought This Beautiful Strat!

I'd say either go for a Red, Blue or Green moto pickguard. add some colour to the guitar and function well with the black pup covers. Black knobs may be needed as well.

Which one of you guys has that program that you can illustrate those Strat options? I have seen it in a couple of posts before.

Re: I Just Bought This Beautiful Strat!

Sweet! They're definitely nice guitars! I am a little more fond of the S/S/S model myself, and I like Olympic white better, which is of course, personal opinion. I think a pearloid pickguard would look good on there! BUT I'm also a fan of white pickguards with black pickups and knobs... soo different strokes for different folks.

Good luck getting set up to best way it will suit your needs! Rock On!

Dang, Ed..you baller!

Re: I Just Bought This Beautiful Strat!

Check out Warmoth's Silver Pearl pickguard. It will look great on a white or off-white guitar with either black or white pups. I'm not sure it's available HSS, though.

Re: I Just Bought This Beautiful Strat!

I got the best idea for what the pickguard should be!!

CHECKERBOARD!!!! :smokin:
