I just flipped a Dimebucker. . . .

Re: I just flipped a Dimebucker. . . .

i dunno about a split pickup sounding "huge" though. maybe he just substantially changed the pickup height and didnt realize it

Re: I just flipped a Dimebucker. . . .

If he had it split before, the split coil is now in a different position and I take it then would sound different. Good call Artie ;)

Exactly - the active coil would now be further from the bridge, giving it a fatter, less trebly tone.

Re: I just flipped a Dimebucker. . . .

What's up now Jimmy is it split? ...for me the only explanation too. Flip it back set the coils in series and your sound again will grow twice as huge as before!

Re: I just flipped a Dimebucker. . . .

OR---you had the pickup set way too low, and then when you flipped it, you set it up closer to the strings.

OR---you had the pickup wired incorrectly, and then rewired it properly when you flipped it.

Or---you had you amp set differently the first time you listened.

OR---you had your amp OFF the first time you listened.

OR---you guitar's volume was set differently the first time you listened.

OR---I have had too much caffiene and should just shut up.

Seriously, though---if the pickup is wired properly, there will be NO difference when you flip an SH-13 around. The only way there could be a sonic difference is if something is wrong in the first place. Go back and check your wiring.

Crap. Another myth debunked.

How are us marketing guys supposed to make up stuff when guys like Scott come around and inject the truth into the discussion? ;)

The original post was by "jimmy"! C'mon Evan. Even I can come up with more original than that. :D

Re: I just flipped a Dimebucker. . . .

First off, I didn't even touch the wires in the cavity.
Second, I keep my pickup close to the strings; this is not the cause.
Third, I simply reversed - flipped - the pickup around.
Both coils are, in fact, on; I have touched them with a screw driver, as told to do so.
Fourth, my amp(s) had the same settings, and were "on," and I didn't have my dose of Monster Energy drink that night.

I have no idea as to why it sounds different, but it does.

I'm gonna jump in here in support of Jimmy. I had a Dime in my Kramer Focus, and tried flipping it, and yeah, it did sound thicker "backwards". I did it the same way as him, just unscrewed the bezel, turned it around and stuck it back in. I don't think I even turned the amp off, and it definitely wasn't split.

Technically possible or not, it definitely did sound different.

Re: I just flipped a Dimebucker. . . .

maybe its just voodoo. you want it to sound different so it does. that kind of thing.

Re: I just flipped a Dimebucker. . . .

Mismatched (?) coils probably , something not symetric for sure here .
Maybe a blade stronger than the other one ?

did anyone ever test to see if this is just a voodoo effect?

I've played it both regular and flipped. There is no voodoo effect.

Re: I just flipped a Dimebucker. . . .

just dont see the mismatched coil thing on a pickup that is (like the dimebucker) designed for high gain freaks.

But you thought there would be a change and there was. And that could just be your mind playing tricks on you. There needs to be an objective test done.

Maybe the Dimebucker pierced your eardrums , and now that you are deaf you like the sound better ? :laugh2:  :laugh2:
