I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE............................................... ..

I bought the Studio One kit without the tubes and the cabinet (I had to keep my cost down) I will build it, supply it with NOS tubes and attempt to construct the cabinet myself.

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

Just had to look the amp up ... looks like a very cool amp for recording!

You can build the cabinet for it..I made a cabinet out of pine for my new Peavey 6505mh 3 days ago and covered it in black and white snakeskin tolex..took me 3 days total here and there to build the cab and cover it..the pine wood and screws cost me $10 total..sounds like a great project.

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

I bet a pine cab actually has a lot of character. Makes me wonder what an oak or birch cab with a pine baffle would sound like.
Yeah, I know, "build it and tell us how it sounds."
Maybe I will.

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

Okay, I cheated and I won't be building my cab. I called Mojotone support and asked if they could supply a blueprint for the Studio One cab.......they couldn't. I was offered a cab that they had in the shop in red tolex for 50% off and I added it to my order. I don't really care for red tolex on an amp, but it's mine. I will be installing NOS from my stash'o'tubes.

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

LOL!! Red tolex isnt my first choice either, but I have an Avatar 2x12 in red tolex that I got a good deal on from Ascension. look forward to hearing how the amp sounds!

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

ive build a few pine cabs but ive never used a solid wood as a baffle, always birch ply. i did use oak for a cab and it looked great but the tone wasnt as warm and rich as pine. might be good for high gain or detuning but i preferred pine for my bluesy rock wanking

Looks like an interesting amp. I f by chance you have a schematic or layout diagram would you mind posting them or directing me to a site where I can see them. I have built several tube amps but they are all Fender clones, I'd like to see what this one looks like

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

I just received my Mojotone Studio One amp kit. I did an inventory of all the parts and I am missing two chicken head knobs. There are supposed to be eight knobs and I only have six. I emailed Mojotone customer service and I will call tomorrow. The amp kit and cabinet are very nicely done. This is going to be a beautiful amp.

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

DON'T LAUGH!................Last night I installed all of the tube sockets, AC line receptacle, pots, jacks, (except channel switching jack for footswitch) impedance switcher, pilot light...............and then I realized.........no front or rear face plates. They are on back order. Now I have to remove all the components from the front and rear of the chassis ad carefully replace them in the plastic bins supplied by Mojotone.

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

Today I attempted to populate the board with the caps and I noticed Mojotone sent me the wrong board, this board is not the board for the Studio One. So now I'm waiting to receive a new board. I just got the two knobs that I was missing today. I am not going to ask what else could go wrong. Still waiting on the front and rear panels.

Wow bummer that you've had so many issues with the parts, at least Mojotone's customer service guys are cool.

A while back MojoTone showed the Studio One as a complete amp on their website. I'd been watching for it to come out as a kit. I ordered a full kit (including tubes and cab) during the memorial day sale. I was out of town for a while so I only finished it last week. This is my second Mojotone Kit- first was a Princeton Reverb- and it was least "documented," coming with just the schematic and layout. The build was not too challenging as there's plenty of room in the marshall-style chassis and the turret board (if they send the right one) makes assembly pretty easy. I think it would be nice if they provided a little guidance on grounding technique but based on what I've learned building the Princeton and a Gilmore Jr., and found online and in Bob Megantz' book, I devised a "distributed star" approach that seems to be working well.

I've been having a blast exploring its sounds. I'm loving the clean channel and how nicely it responds to changes at the guitar (pick attack or volume) and slides into breakup. The lead channel is awesome with the master/gain setup allowing you to dial in your level of crunch/scream. With the gain cranked I feel I can channel my inner Randy Bachman for the lead on American Woman (yeah, right). The lead channel does require close attention to your tone settings but the TMB setup makes it easy to adjust.

Like I said, I got the complete kit which includes the Marshall-style head cabinet. I'm playing it through a 1x12 with a 16 ohm Weber Blue Dog. Tomorrow night will be its first jam night, I'm looking forward to showing it off :)

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

My Monotone Studio One amp kit still has a problem with the overall volume. My lack of experience has me unable to troubleshoot. All interest from the manufacturer has dissipated. Not sure how to get this thing right.

I think I remember another thread on this but ... you did get the correct board from Mojotone, right?

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

I had help from the manufacturer earlier on and sent photos of the inside of the amp to the owner of Mojotone. I did receive and populate the proper board and by all that I can see everything is installed and wired correctly. I used Teflon coated MIL spec wire for all of the grounds in a dual star ground configuration. (The wire supplied appears to be cheap plastic coated wire probably to cut costs on the manufacturer's end) Some of the aspects of this build have been highly disappointing. I only have two screws and nuts holding the the board in place due to two improperly drilled holes in the chassis. Care wasn't taken when the chassis was drilled and when the parts were shipped (missing and wrong parts) front and rear faceplates were not shipped with the initial amp kit and was several weeks before I received them. I probably should have built a champ kit for my first build and probably a different manufacturer. I will be happy if I can get this amp working even if some aspects are below par.

That's disappointing. Looked for a layout online but didn't see one. Clear, close photos of the inside of your amp along with a layout or schematic may get you some help.

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

I have photos and I am having trouble loading them. New MacBook Pro El Capitan OS. It was so much easier before.

Re: I JUST ORDERED A MOJOTONE STUDIO ONE.............................................

Why not just drill another hole in the chassis for the board to be secure? Why not find someone near you that repairs amps to trouble shoot it for you?
