I just spent over $300 buying a single pedal.

Re: I just spent over $300 buying a single pedal.

So what do the following pedals have in common that I've acknowledged that the guesses were in the ballpark:

Bogner Ueberschall, AMT SS-20...

and then the following guesses were even closer, leading to another clue:

Bogner Red, Okko Dominator...

Dominus, I did not know there was a pedal called the "Uberschall", and of course now I must own it. Thanks a lot. :-p

Re: I just spent over $300 buying a single pedal.

I don't know that one but congrats, hope it's worth every penny to you!

Re: I just spent over $300 buying a single pedal.

The Decimator control in the top right corner, is it a bit crusher? THAT effect would be worth paying for in a pedal.

Actually, the ISP Decimator is probably the *best* noise suppression system on the market. This pedal is the ISP Theta preamp in pedal form, along with the Decimator noise suppressor built in. Dead silent, and more gain than I think anyone would need. I'm always looking for the most distortion possible.. think death metal / industrial metal tones. I'm not even using the preamp portion that cascades into the distortion side. Just this with a small boost from a Joyo Tube Screamer clone, then into the computer for a virtual power amp, and I've got a crushing sound.

They also make a solid state amp head that goes for about $1800.

ISP Technologies created the Theta Preamp Pedal to bring you the aggressive gain and sustain from their acclaimed Theta amplifier, in a pedalboard-friendly design. We're talking outrageous gain - over 160dB of gain, when you use both the Pre-distort Preamplifier and High Gain Distortion sections together. Or just the Pre-distort Preamplifier stage's 3-band EQ for sweet tone shaping independent of the high-gain stage, for extra versatility. And with its +/-15-volt power supply, you've got an amazing amount of headroom for more dynamic tones with the ISP Technologies Theta Preamp Pedal.

Over 160dB of gain for undeniably aggressive tone and sustain
It may seem like a bit much, but between the two gain stages on the Theta Preamp Pedal you've got over 160dB of gain on tap. You can use the Pre-distort Preamp stage either for clean tone-shaping (with the 3-band EQ) or as a rich-sounding overdrive. The High Gain Distortion stage gives you 3-band tonal control too, so it's easy to really dial-in your ideal tones on the Theta Preamp Pedal.

Decimator G-string II circuit means ultra-quiet operation
The award-winning Decimator G-string II noise-reduction circuit on the Theta Preamp Pedal is what keeps this high-gain monster from sounding like a continuous static discharge. In fact, the Decimator technology provides more than 80dB of noise reduction. And the big deal with this generation of the Decimator technology is the incredibly smooth release response, which means that you don't hear the noise reduction working at all - you just notice how quiet your rig is when you're not playing.

More headroom means more punch, impact, and tonal tenacity
The Theta Preamp Pedal packs an internal +/-15-volt power supply, which gives it three times the headroom of a typical 9-volt pedal. More headroom means more dynamics, and that means more punch, impact, and nuance in your tone. So even if you have the gain on the Theta Preamp Pedal cranked, you'll still have a powerful, aggressive tone with a ton of character.

Re: I just spent over $300 buying a single pedal.

I've always wanted to try the Theta head. That thing looks sweet!

Re: I just spent over $300 buying a single pedal.

That thing is SICK! It gave me instant G.A.S.

Yeah, I think this is what I've been looking for. :D Like I said, I haven't even cranked it all the way, so I've still got some room for more gain if necessary.

They've got a matching power amp:

$335 street for the preamp, the power amp is the same price. The head is $1800, if you really need all the channels and 300W, otherwise, you can save a bit going for the pedals.

Wow! Never heard of that.. Congrats!! Id go dizzy trying to figure out all the knobs..

this thread has my curiousity peaked on the AMT SS20 also... someone clue me in..??

Re: I just spent over $300 buying a single pedal.

OK, we need a review.

I've tried and sold a lot of stuff, so far this really looks like a keeper. I was able to find a good sound in about 30 seconds, no joke.

It looked confusing to me too, but the top row of knobs are for the (optional) preamp/clean channel, and the bottom row are for the distortion channels. I just use the 2nd distortion channel (so Gain 2), the bottom row of knobs to taste, and the decimator knob to reduce noise. I do have to play with the preamp soon, but it was easier just plugging in a TS clone with my settings already on it. :D

The AMT SS-20 is a tube preamp, I'd actually want the SS-30, which is their solid state one.

Yeah, this thing is very cool.

It's also capable of a WIDE variety of tones:

None of those are mine, but gives you an idea of what it's capable of.

Re: I just spent over $300 buying a single pedal.

Dang! That looks like a whole control center there. Cool pedal. I will listen to the videos. My 2nd guess was going to be a Soldano pedal.

Re: I just spent over $300 buying a single pedal.

So now that you've owned it for 9 months or whatever, how has your opinion of this unit held up? Have their been any letdowns or nice surprises?

In particular, have you done anything djenty with this? I.E. heavily gated stuff with a decent amount of gain. Are you able to find a good balance between sustain and gate? Can you produce fast muted rest sections without a squeal or honk invading them?
