I just won a brand new Gibson VOS 59 Les Paul!

No way. I wish. I want one of these so bad. I've been playing the same one every time I go to Guitar Center for the last two years. Someone finally bought it and I'm crushed.

1. Screw you, man! ;)

2. I hope that whoever got that guitar got a really good deal, as it has been sitting in GC getting played for at least two years. Most high-end guitars on the used market will be in better condition than one that has been in GC that long.

ahhh I've been lookin at so much R8/R9/R0 guitar porn lately! A classmate of mine has this beautiful iced tea plaintop R0 (I think it's technically a G0 for the Guitar Center exclusive) and it has me drooling! This was the last thing I needed to see! :)

fyi, Gibson is going to limit R9 production to about 300 units in 2012.

Better buy one while you can...

Seriously? Does it have anything to do with that rosewood lawsuit or are they just doing it to raise the price?

Re: I just won a brand new Gibson VOS 59 Les Paul!

I bought an Iced Tea burst R-9 Historic Reissue just like that one. It is a 2006, had it for three weeks now. It is my fourth Historic, my first flametop--with broad, ribbon-type flame. It WAS a full-gloss version, not a VOS.

Only problem is, one of the previous owners took 50 grit sandpaper to the finish to "relic" it. He put Sperzel locking tuners on it; and he pounded the bushings in with a hammer leaving marks all over the headstock's faceplate, ruining and cracking it. He used a soldering iron to burn initials into the top below the bridge; and left various solder and burn marks all over the back, around the jackplate and along the binding. Part of the neck's finish is sanded off. The original Burstbucker 1 & 2 were included, but the leads have been cut too short; and the volume and tone pot assembly is missing. It does have the original repro brown Lifton case, which was worthless even when new--but it too has been "reliced".

The damage is simply heartbreaking.

The seller had bought it to restore, but couldn't bond with the neck. (He's a superstrat played who likes Wizard thin necks, and he kept the EMG he had in it.) I got it for a REALLY good price, but I have some work cut out for me. Going to have my luthier work some magic on the finish, and hopefully I'll wind up with a guitar that will look very used, but not as "abused" as it is now.

I'll get some pics up next week.

And yeah, when I win the Lotto, I'm gonna buy a truckload of Gibson Historics!!!

You should call the police and get this man arrested! It's unbelivable how he'd ruin such a great guitar, and specially by working by himself.

New SDUGF lexicon entry – UberMetalDooded, pulling an UberMetalDood: making a post about a seemingly awesome guitar purchase to lure unsuspecting forum bros into the thread, then proceed to clarify that no such purchase has been made, raising the ire of aforementioned forum bros.

My first though on that guitar would be that it is someone's twisted way of covering up a counterfeit. It is just too off the wall to make any sense.

Holy crap!! That's crazy, Boogie Bill.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking before I saw it. If it's a fake, it is a darn good one. Feels and plays like a Gibby, all the correct parts etc. It has the proper R9 stamp in the control cavity and the right "feel" for a Historic. Most importantly, it smells like a Gibson! So, I'm pretty sure about it not being a fake.

And yeah, the guy that messed this up has serious mental issues!
