I know this is asked a lot but I'd like some fresh ideas.

Hello all,
I'm forever seeking out new pedals and new tones which to me is so much fun. I'm in the hunt right now for a OD pedal or Distortion to cover a few things.
I currently own the TC electronics Spark which is a killer Boost / OD pedal that has a light OD tone to it with a super awesome Mid range boost. Much better then the Ibanez Tube screamers I have owned which are pretty damn good.
I also have the Dark matter from TC and it's ok at best. I feel it's a bit fuzzy for my taste and not tight enough for that I want it to do.

My needs are pretty simple, I need out in front of my clean channel the ability to play tones like classic rock stuff. Example would be some Bryan Adams , ZZ Top , AC DC area. Not to hard rock but from soft to hard if you know what I mean. Old Marshall heads do this fantastically and even Blues amps capture some of the type of tones I'm after. The blues pedal from boss is pretty damn good as well as their Waza overdrive.
What would you also look at to compare to get into this area of rock tone? My amp is a 2 trick pony, it does amazing Fender cleans and brutal Engl/Mesa/5150 type drive and thats it. You can back the gain down all you want, it's to aggressive to get what I'm after so I have to look into pedals to give me that 3rd channel I'm after , the Crunch if you will on the light .

Thanks for any suggestions up front

Dan

Sounds like you are looking for something that will give you the old Marshall Plexi thru JCM tones, the first things that comes to mind is the Catalinbread DLS, or maybe the Wampler Plexidrive, the Duncan Dirty Deed Distortion will get you close too.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, the General Guitar Gadgets BSIAB2 or the Guv'nor clone would be good ones to check out.

I didn't like the wampler plexidrive or the dls mk3 at all.

Bogner Blue if you can afford it, otherwise Zvex Distortron/Box of Rock

Frickin' Carl Martin Plexitone. The big one.

Jeckyll and Hyde... The V3 OD is not the TS 808 based design of the V1 & V2. It's got the ability to be more transparent but can also do that mid bump thing if dialled in right. The distortion side can go from that classic Marshall sound to more modern high gain. There is actually a sample setting that gets you in the ZZ Top ballpark. Plus, it comes in a snazzy faux velvet pouch! Lol

I looked for the Wampler today and struck out, thanks for that tip. I'm very curious about their entire line up. Seems like some good stuff.

The 805 Overdrive is great on its own, and has 3 active EQ controls. The Palladium adds a whole gain stage to your amp that is super tweakable. You can get everything from a light overdrive to hot rod Plexi to metal-crazy gain with a separate boost, too.
