I like 7.5 radius neck

Re: I like 7.5 radius neck

The Canadacaster has a 7.25" radius. It is very comfy for chording and simple leads, but it does tend to fret out on a bend, especially at the upper frets. I wouldn't change it at all though - I love playing it.

Ben,

Did you have the radius "flatened" to 9 on your Strat because it came stock with a 7.25 inch radius.
Hmm, good Q. I never had anything done to it, but was always under the impression that late 70s Strats have a flatter radius. The neck is currently in the UK, in the Gajic Custom shop. I'll shoot Laz an email and get back to ya!

What would be the psycology behind this?
I believe it's called masochism.

Seriously, you sound like someone who doesn't like guitars that play "too easy"...or you don't play above the 7th fret. :p

As far as I know 7.25 was the only radius for Strats and Tele's until after the CBS days...I could be wrong but Im pretty sure about it.

So...what's Laz doing to the neck right now???

Nothing, I hope, LOL!

I sent it over to him b/c he's making a replacement neck, which from all accounts, should totally rock! He replicated the heel size and headstock size/shape, but there the resemblence ends. The new neck is reverse headstock, bone nut, 6100 fret wire, 14" radius, 1-3/4" nut, and flame maple fingerboard (no dots). Last I heard it was being sealed ...

Re: I like 7.5 radius neck

That sounds pretty bad ass...same profile? Whats gonna happen to the Fender neck? BTW...how much of that guitar is left...it's all been changed except the body now right?

No, it will have the J Frog profile, just like the other 2 necks Laz has made.

The jury's still out. I may hold onto it, or perhaps sell it off. Haven't really decided yet.

The bridge is still original, and the one thing I can't WAIT to update are the saddles; they are very pitted and quite crapulent, lol!

Re: I like 7.5 radius neck

I have a 7.5' radius neck on my Strat and I set my action at 1.2 mm at the high E and 1.5 mm at the Low E. I play Blues with it a lot and I bend the string to 1-1/2 all the time with not problem. The only problem I have is when I play the low E string real fast, my finger tend to push the string out of the neck sometimes.

Re: I like 7.5 radius neck

my 82 has the small radius, but after playing guitars for so long with larger radii, it just feels strange now. i can get the action lower on my brian moore and ernie ball, and don't have to worry about fretting out or buzzing.
