I like big muffs and i cannot lie....part II

Chickenwings

Alnico 6/8
Just finished the one on the right. Its a ramshead clone.
Sound wise it has less output than the russian tank, and less gain and sustain. Its got less bass too, but more of a mid snarl. It would probably cut through better in a band situation with a more 70s classic rock kind of sound whereas the russian is more of the huge scooped epic grunge sound. Next thing will be to record with both of them and see how they work with drums and bass around them.

I'd like to build myself a tri/rams head era clone at some point.

I am looking at BYOC tube screamers... ever mess with them?

I've built a bunch of BYOC pedals, but not that one. They do a great job. Assuming you aren't totally hopeless at soldering you should be able to build something on par with a "boutique" pedal.

im building a ggg tube screamer, but im waiting for one part to come in the mail. I think building a tube screamer is a great idea because so many people mod them. Might as well get it perfect fro you right out of the box.

Sweet! I'm getting a Mojo Hand Colossus next week - supposed to be one of the best modded Russian muffs on the market. Looking forward to comparing it to my Basic Audio Tri/Ram. I've had a Pharaoh for a while now but I hardly use it because the Tri/Ram is just so much better. Hopefully the Colossus will be better:

Out of curiosity, does your Russian clone sound anything like that?

i think i need to add a pharaoh to the line up sooner or later. Yeh the russian sound a bit like that. Maybe a bit more scooped. Pretty huge. fwiw i like the tone at about 3 o clock on the russian and between 12 and 1 pm on the ram if that gives you a picture
