I love the Custom, but...

Re: I love the Custom, but...

I love the Custom.

No "buts".

I love "buts". To each their own.

Kidding aside: i tried each Custom variant including C3, C4 and C6, but never a CC. Since got another DCJ with broken off leg, i gonna try a CC in strat.

The CC is my favorite.

Re: I love the Custom, but...

Depends on the guitar for me. The CC is great in a Strat, but I don't care for it with Gibson scale. (IMO of course)

I agree with this, but I only ever use it with a Strat scale, which is my favorite.

Now i got a Seymourizer II on the way. The seller measured 6.8k on one coil. Its a no backlogo baseplate one, therefore pre 1983. The seller remembers the SEY label, but its now missing.

seymourizer II = SH7 = SH6N (nowadays).

The SH6N is imho a criminally underrated pickup and it's a crying shame it has been relegated to be 'just' the neck pickup in the mayhem set. I hybridized it with a Screaming Demon and that puppy screams and howls for days but is superreactive to my fingers, playing and pots. Makes sense, cause both coils are 43awg, just with a mismatch of 1k (like, 1000 winds or so?). Throw in the double ceramic of the SH6N or an Alnico8 and you've got yourself one of my alltime favorites. it's like the Omega but not so brittle in the top end.

Re: I love the Custom, but...

What are thoughts about the 500T? Specs wise, you would easily say compressed. But into a clean powerful tube amp, it seems to have good dynamics to me. I can squeeze a good old school AC/DC tone out of it, depending on how hard you hit the strings. I set the amp so that it just gets dirty when I'm digging into the strings the hardest. Playing regular is almost clean.

Oh, and FWIW, your killing me on this post because I plan on loading a TB5 into my SL2H Copperhead soon.

I wouldn't hesitate to do that. Use the neck for cleans, and you're good to rock and roll. Seriously, out of the 59, A2Pro, Distortion, and any of the Custom family, the stock Custom is my favorite bridge Duncan. I think the Demon might be a close second, but I just learned that it's probably my favorite neck pickup, so I don't have a spare for the bridge, and I like the Custom better anyway.
