I love the heat, but...

This crazy heatwave that's been hitting Europe since may has it's drawback (cattle is starving, forest fires all over the place) but being the most frozen man north of the equator, this is paradise.
HOWEVER, it's doing terrible things to my guitar. Slapped on a new set of strings and they aged months in just a few days. And keeping my guitar (with a Floyd) in tune through more than one song is but a memory.
How the hell do you people in tropical places keep your gear from crapping out on you?!

Re: I love the heat, but...

How hot is it?

The cold is far worse here in the Midwest US, everything dries out. In the spring, summer and fall things are great.

Re: I love the heat, but...

It’s been humid here on the east coast of the US for a few weeks. I’ve also noticed that my guitars won’t stay in tune very well.

Re: I love the heat, but...

Im in FL and its hot, hot, hotter than hell.. Plus, due to my back condition, I sweat profusely anyhow. Its destroying my gear. Mostly strings, straps and strap locks. I wipe really thoroughly after each place, but the moisture in the strap caused one to get mildew. Ive since started leaving straps out of the case after playing) and my straplocks are getting rusty.. Had one set get completely ruined.

Re: I love the heat, but...

And you'd think that all the rain we've had lately would cool things off. Nope. Just fuel for the asphalt. We live in a sauna. (And not in a good way.)

Re: I love the heat, but...

Yeah, here in FL, strings last 1 show. It is 100% humidity all the time. Strings on guitars that aren't even played don't last long.

Re: I love the heat, but...

If I buy a guitar from somewhere cold and have it shipped here it'll usually do neck-backflips and sprout frets very quickly, but there's not much seasonal change after that, being that SoCal really does not get seasons (hot summers, short & warm winters.)

I think the key is it stays dry year around. At one point moving from the drier desert heat to the more humid (but more temperature stable) coast caused a couple of my guitars to develop checking that month. Even coastal SoCal humidity does not get as bad as Florida, although it's been a weirdly humid Summer.

My strings last years.
