John Mayer's Mankini
I have figured out that while I love the tone of Les Pauls, their scale length and fretboard is just too small for me - it gives me hand cramps within about 10 minutes of playing, which hurt and take some time to untangle. I have been playing my Les Paul every day for at least that long, for about 2 months, and it happens every day, every time. So I have decided I have to use a different guitar, with a 25" scale length. I have a PRS SE now, and its scale length works for me just fine.
If I'm being fully honest, 25.5" is really what works best for me, though.
Bummer.
So, obviously my first stop was PRS Guitars - but it seems they either have a TOM (or TOM-like thing) and a 24.5" scale (SC58), or a 25" scale and a wraparound (SC250) or trem (MT) --- never a 25" scale and a TOM (or TOM-like thing) in the same place at the same time.
So, I could try to build one at home, but I'm not really ready for a carved top or a set neck just yet.
I could piece one together with Warmoth or USACG parts, but I am thinking that bolt-on is NOT the way to fly if it's Les Paul tones that I seek.
Now, I know that the scale length is a part of the Les Paul tone - but I have decided that 24.75" or 24.5" is just not doable for me and my hands, so I'm planning to keep everything as similar to a Gibson Les Paul as I can, except for the scale length.
So, do you guys have any ideas for me?
