I need a condenser microphone...

Re: I need a condenser microphone...

Rode NT1A is a terrific all-rounder. You also cannot go wrong with Audio Technica. BLUE are a bit more specialized, the Spark fits your budget and is also quite good, but not as versatile as the other two I mentioned.

Re: I need a condenser microphone...

I bought an AKG perception, whichever is about that money.

It works. I don't really have anything to compare it with. Obviously it colors "a bit" less than my SM58/SM57.

Re: I need a condenser microphone...

Take a look at the Behringer B-2 Pro.
It's about $150.
I'm using it for quite some time now, the sound is great and it's really affordable.
If you are doing vocals don't forget to buy a pop killer as well.
K&M's are expensive but they are awesome.
Both should be obtainable with $200.

But before you buy anything be sure to check out
some reviews to get the mic that suits your needs.

Re: I need a condenser microphone...

Most mics in this price range offer a 'studio pack' that includes the microphone and pop filter. If not, talk to your retailer about a package deal.

Re: I need a condenser microphone...

I would advise against Behringer and Legacy condenser mics as they are less reliable and don't sound as good as other mics you can get for a similar price. I think MXL mics are great value. The v67G has a really nice sound especially for vocals. It even looks nice. The 2006 model is versatile and there are simple mods for it to tailor it to your needs. Rode is also a wise choice.

Re: I need a condenser microphone...

Well, I still don't know what you actually need or are looking for, but I guess I'll throw my $.02 in. Budget condensers tend to sound like budget condensers. Most of those mentioned, you can get some passable results with (again, depending on intent). If your're willing to buy something used you can get something pro or semi pro for the same money. You could get an AKG C3000 or c214 which IMO are going to perform way better than any Behringer, Perception or whatever Guitar Center had on sale. Just make sure you're buying from a reputable dealer.

For small diaphragm condensers, you can probably find an SM81 for under $200, which, to me, is a no brainer, but it's worth checking out some ADK SC2's if you can find some. I think they qualify as budget mics. You might even find a pair close to your price range. They sound great though. Again all depends on what you're after. Secondary guitar cab mic? Acoustic? Vocals? Room mic or drum overhead? Some combination thereof?

Good choice! The NT1-A is a great low cost all-rounder.
