I need a jazz pickup - help!

Re: I need a jazz pickup - help!

the jazz model got its name from originally being called the JM. when seymour moved into production he had to call it something (JM stood for john milner) so JM became jazz model

Lol. The 'J' in JB never needed to stand for anything, apparently.

Re: I need a jazz pickup - help!

For me, if my Ibanez had their Super 58 pickup, I would not change it. I have guitars with Classic '57s, BB 1&2, Ants, Seths, Pearlys, Custom Shop Seths, '59/JB...and honestly, the Super 58s can hang with any of them. I'm not a "pure" jazz player, in that my band also does blues, rock, country and fusion. But the Super 58 is a very sweet pickup; very underrated, IMO.

I actually forgot about the Super 58's, they ARE really good pickups. I had an ibanez semihollow for a few years while I was studying jazz guitar in university and it had a GREAT jazz sound.

I have to add that an Antiquity will sound like an old PAF does 60 years later. A Seth Lover is sort of the same pickup when new. So something like a vintage ES-175 might use something close to an Antiquity, while when it was new, the pickup was closer to the Seth Lover. Both get great jazz tones.

Re: I need a jazz pickup - help!

I have no idea what pickup came with the guitar, but I just can't get a sound I like. I'm using a little Roland 55 Jazz Chorus amp. I want something tighter, fatter, rounder, and more dry (Does dry make sense? I mean, for wine, sure, but jazz pickups? :alcoholic)
