I need a new overdrive pedal.

Re: I need a new overdrive pedal.

I use a BD-2 in front of my Laney for leads. I like it alot, but i also love the SD pickup booster for leads and i can't decide between the 2! Anyways, heres +1 to the BD-2 list, although i have pretty much no experience with the others on the list.

Re: I need a new overdrive pedal.

Hey.

Basically I need a new OD pedal, my birthday is up and I have been wanting to have one for a long time, but which one?

I like 80s hair metal guitar tones, my inspiration with tones are:
Mick Mars (Esp. the lead tone during the Home Sweet Home solo).
Carlos (Quiet Riot during Metal Health).
Matthias Jabs.
Adrian Smith.
Ken hammer.
Randy Rhoads.
And others.

I am looking for something in their ballpark, but my own preference would be:
Smooth (Not totally flushing out the notes), but yet a bit raw.
Suited for both Lead and rhythm (But it would mainly be a lead pedal).
Can cover alot of ground.

I have looked at:
Boss BD-2, SD-1, OD-3.
Rocktron Austin Gold.
MXR distortion+ RI.

Rid says the Dist+ reissue sounds bad, but from the clip at MXR I thought it sounded fine.

Out of those 5 which one would suit my needs good?

And no other suggestions please, I wont use Tubescreamers etc.

Btw. Where can one get soundclps of the Rocktron and MXR?

Thanks.

Boss MT-2 ?

Re: I need a new overdrive pedal.

I use a BD-2 and can highly recommend it. I've also been using one of the original Tech21 XXL pedals and whoo-boy! Reminds me of a Soldano when it's pushing the front end of my Bassman Reissue. More of a distortion than an overdrive, though...

Re: I need a new overdrive pedal.

What I really like about the BD-2 is it rawness, but that fuzz head just blew me away.

Re: I need a new overdrive pedal.

For what youre wanting i can't recommend enough the digitech bad monkey as a boost and an overdrive and you can get one for a very cheap price.

Re: I need a new overdrive pedal.

I'll drop in my vote for the BD-2. I use it in conjunction with an Analog Man King of Tone, and the combination absolutely kills!

Re: I need a new overdrive pedal.

I'm going to go with the BD-2 as many of our brothren have suggested. I'm concerned that the issue may not actually be which pedal, but uhm - you know - 80's glam rock hair bands as a source of inspiration may need some thought. I must admit though, that I secretly get off on some of it ( " She put an arrow...though my heart ... dew dew dew du dew ... round round get around "). I know many of the first Gulf War pilots were allowed to crank tunes on their way to target, while their "gators" gave directions .. first choice was White Snake.

Re: I need a new overdrive pedal.

If the top end is too fizzy I would try a(ny) Tubescreamer .... if you want just a solo boost I dunno

Re: I need a new overdrive pedal.

I dont like Tubescreamers that much.... sorry.

But the choice is on a BD-2 and a Fuzz Head so thats just great :)
