I was in the same boat as you.....I like the 59 tone, but wanted bigger lows and a bit more output. The C-5 is the closest thing to that. Don't worry about the "scooped" description. The C-5 has tight percussive lows, neutral mids that let the amp and wood dictate the mids, and natural sounding highs like the 59.

The CC is a tad looser on the bass, a bit more low mids, and the top end is less 'wide open' and more buttery and sweet.

If the CC has accentuated low mids, then the JB is the pickup with accentuated high mids. The Custom has a lot of punch, and drives an amp nicely, but it doesn't sound as sweet as the C-5 or 59 on cleans. The Custom is still a nice beefy sounding pickup though.

definitely the custom or the C5

the CC, C5, and Custom are all the same pickup, but the CC has an A2 magnet, C5 has an A5 magnet, and the Custom has a ceramic magnet
