i have an original 1966 Fender Princeton Reverb that someone replaced witha 12" speaker that is shot. i got a stock celestion GT75 out of my rivera in it right now, but i know that isn't the tone this amp wants.

i'm thinking Eminence Cannabis Rex, or Jensen CK12.

speakers is not my strong subject, so any help would be appreciated!

Now that your baffle board has been modded for a 12" You have many more options that you would have w/t the stock 10". When I built my Princeton clone, I had the cab. specially built for a 12". The speaker I use is a Emi 12" Alnico I got from a old Peavey Deuce. When the amp is driven hard, The way the tube rec. sags & the Alnico speaker compress's is a magical combo of BIG round fat notes for me. The only downfall in Princeton's in general is the loose Bass response. Increasing the filtering & adding a 12" only helps the problem marginally. ( if your after tight Bass from a PR.. You have the wrong amp!) IMO it's wise to pick a speaker that plays to the amps strong points. Midrange OD or highend chime. Once you decide what sound your going for? I'm sure the guy's here will start pelting you with suggestions .:)

I LOVE Weber's 10F150-T with the BF Princeton Reverb circuit, but it's not a 12". The 12F150-A has an interesting description.

IME an email to Ted Weber telling him what amp you have and what sound/tone you're after is a great start. Then listen to suggestions here.

Re: i need a speaker for my '66 Princeton...

I have two vintage Princeton Reverb amps. Bruce replaced the baffle in my blackface with one cut for a 12" speaker and my silverface has the original baffle cut for a 10" speaker. They're both wonderful amps. In my silverface I have a Weber C10NQ. It's Ted's version of the old Jensen C10N, only Ted uses a bigger magnet and I asked for a "Q" cone rather than a "N" cone. The "Q" cone is lighter and sounds faster and has more highs while retaining a solid deep low end as well. I prefer it and think it sounds more like the original cone in a '66 Jensen C10N.

When it comes to 12" speakers I'm a Celestion guy all the way. In my blackface Princeton Reverb with the custom 12" baffle, I have a Celestion G1265 - same speaker Robben Ford uses. When I gig on electric guitar this is the amp I bring to the gig these days. The G1265 has a more textured tone than my other favorite ceramic Celestion, the G12H30.

However, I also have a one 12 Matchless cabinet and in it I have a mid 60's Celestion G12 alnico, It's silver, not blue, but it's the same speaker.

When I plug my Princeton Reverb into that speaker and bypass the speaker in the amp I get a glorious sound that's even better!

But the Matchless speaker cab is a little bigger all around than the smaller Princeton Reverb cab so that's probably helping too.

None the less, someday I'll pull the G1265 and try a Celestion G12 alnico in my Princeton Reverb. Until then, the G1265 sounds just fine and is my favorite 12" that I've used installed in my Princeton Reverb cab.

I love both the Cannabis Rex and the G12-65.

Two difference sounds, two different vibes. At the moment, my favorite is the G12-65.

But if you wanna keep the "vintage" vibe, you can't get a better speaker than a Weber.

Go here to choose your Weber. Look at the different models, the descriptions are VERY accurate.

BTW, Ted Weber passed away. R.I.P.
