Re: I need a super rad amp, mojo a plus
The new Vox 50/100 watt heads and combos use EL34's and use solid state rectifiers and channel switch. The Vox AC30CC's whether head or combo have two channels that you can blend to get fuller bottom end, use tube rectifiers but don't channel switch. Under $1K last time I looked though the 50/100 watt Voxes might go over that. One option is to get a Dr Z Carmen Ghia. Class A EL-84 18 watt little handwired amp. The head is under $1K it sounds sweet like a an AC15 has a tube rectifier(5y3) and does roots rock and blues great and has one tone one volume knob so it's dead simple to use. Instead of the Rivera amp using 6v6's spend about a thousand less and get the 6v6 fender deluxe reverb reissue also well under $1K. Some of the other amps suggested can work for you but as tone is such a subjective thing in the ear of the beholder it's best for you to try out as many amps you can get your hands on.
