Re: I need advice for a Black Metal guitar

I would just get an older MIJ RG and drop an X2N in it. Black Metal for days.

Re: I need advice for a Black Metal guitar

For chords wouldn't a radius a bit more round than flat help more? Maybe 12'' like this one.

I play A LOT of clean tone stuff on my Ibanez 7 strings that have 16.92 inch radius fretboards.
In fact, the lower action it allows has only made it EASIER to chord, not harder.

Yeah it depends on many things (action, radius etc), it's all about to find the perfect combination.

I still think that low action on flat radius necks helps leads but chords get harder after a while. But anyway, whatever suits each.

Hehe, for some reason, a lot of people seem to forget that most proper black metal is played on 6 string guitars, tuned to E standard...

ESPs are all made in Japan (with very few exceptions).

But yeah, still pricey.
If you take a look at the sticker on the guitar, it says USA.

I'm not sure if that means that it was produced in the US, or just meant for the US market, though.

I believe the horizon 7 string is around 1700-1800...so yeah a little out of budget ($500 -1500). Plus he said "6". He DID mention that he's got an ESP SV STANDARD so that is also a Japan ESP. The ibanez guitars you guys mentioned are good guitars for the price range but I feel they wouldn't stand up to the ESP he's already got.

Based on this I think you should look into the Horizon nt-ii. Thin neck, 24 frets, seymour duncans stock, mahogany body, ebony fingerboard. These are pricey but that is why you buy used.

If you take a look at the sticker on the back of the headstock, it says "Made in Japan."

Just a friendly FYI. :)

Re: I need advice for a Black Metal guitar

No ESPs made in USA ^^, it's all Japan.

And I'll say it again, I'm not looking for only thin necks, but FLAT ones. Really, it's all about flat. My SV has a relatively thin neck, plays great, but not for black metal. Horizons feel exactly like my SV.

I'm not looking for the ultra plus guitar, just something nice that plays easily. When I said 500-1500, I should have said 500-1000. But thanks for the input anyway !

heck look at that
neck was made in Japan and the body sticker was made in USA

I think you're barking up the wrong tree, man.

Black metal is all about relentless trem picking... Neck shape, fretboard radius, etc. has zilch to do with that. We're talking about right-hand technique, here.

The dude from Wolves in the Throne Room seems to be using Ibanez guitars, FWIW.

Here's someone playing live with Xasthur, using a Les Paul:

Here's the thing - I don't think there's any such thing as a "black metal guitar." If you are (and I'm not saying you are), but IF YOU ARE having problems playing that style, you might want to look to improving your technique instead of blaming the guitar.

Just sayin.

As Empty Pockets says around here, "It's not the arrow, it's the indian."

+1 You just said exactly what I wanted to say when I first posted in this thread but was afraid I'd sound rude.

Re: I need advice for a Black Metal guitar

i was gonna say "any guitar that helps you look like a bigger ******"

but yeah

you just gota play a few and find what feels good

Re: I need advice for a Black Metal guitar

I play Black Metal on many Ibanez guitars without ANY problems apart from the trem bridge. I was quite sure to end up buying a fixed bridge Ibanez before I posted this thread, but I still wanted to see if anyone would come up with interesting alternatives.

I tried to play BM on Les Pauls, forget it ^^

Re: I need advice for a Black Metal guitar

Is the guitar going to be Black? Or is the metal it will be playing Black? I'm having trouble with that??? Or is it all Black; the guitar, the metal, everything. Or should the guitar be black and made of metal? I'm confused...
