I Need Fat Thick Raunchy Fuzz

Empty Pockets

BadHairDayologist
When I was living in Salt Lake City a friend of mine left his Double Muff at my house for more than a year. It worked its way into being my 'main' dirt box...it's just so fat and creamy! But it only had two knobs and wasn't very 'diverse'...

So I just wanna know what you guys use for fat, thick fuzz tones. I'm looking for something decidedly MUFF-y, and have actually been talkin to a forum bro about buying his Metal Muff, but I'm afraid it'll be more 'distortion' and not so much that thick muff fuzz.

So what's the verdict? Does the Metal Muff pull off Big Muff tones with more tone-shaping options due to the 3-band EQ? What about the Russian Muff vs. the American one? Then there's the English Muff'n with EL34's to consider...

So yeah, let's talk fuzz.

Re: I Need Fat Thick Raunchy Fuzz

Have a look at the Hartman fuzzes. They are FAT and fuzzy. He makes every one by hand and tests them out by playing them. I personally find the NKT-275 to be super fat (makes my strat sound massive) but what I really dig is that the thing is so musical, colourful and responsive to your touch. They are also a fair bit cheaper than the equally sweet analogman sun face. Germanium fuzzes are a whole different level from silicon fuzzes (Muffs etc) in terms of mind bending wildness and response. Truly professional equipment.

I've always been fond of the Frantone Peach Fuzz. Its really beef-y and cleans up really well.

Re: I Need Fat Thick Raunchy Fuzz

the metal muff definitely won't get you there. it's a distortion pedal and not fuzzy at all in my opinion. mi audio, pro tone, and bbe make some good stuff. mi audio is a little on the expensive side, but they make great sounding gear. check them out.

Re: I Need Fat Thick Raunchy Fuzz

HBE UFO is a great thick sounding fuzz, and it has a footswitchable octavia effect on it too :)

Re: I Need Fat Thick Raunchy Fuzz

Wolly Mammoth and Peach Fuzz are good, also check out the offereings of Skreddy. The ? Lady is a wooly, raunchy Muff based fuzz. The fattest, thickest one I've got is a clone of the Way Huge Swollen Pickle. I got it from "Mr. Sage" on the Harmony Central Effects Forum, he calls it the Black Pearl. Wicked...

Re: I Need Fat Thick Raunchy Fuzz

The stoner rock community seems to be raving about the D*A*M Meathead. For good reason too, that thing is thick as treacle.

Re: I Need Fat Thick Raunchy Fuzz

All the D*A*M products are great, but good luck getting one if you're State-side. ;) I tried for a few months then just gave up.

Re: I Need Fat Thick Raunchy Fuzz

On my Boss ME-50, I either use a Muff or Fuzz Face setting (which I was told sounds almost identical to the two of 'em) or I'll use the Crunch setting.
