I need help identifying this Jackson

Re: I need help identifying this Jackson

It looks like the pickups don't have polepieces.

Re: I need help identifying this Jackson

Really odd. Looks like he took the large screws out of Duncan Designeds. Easiest way to ID Seymour Duncans vs Duncan Designed - Seymour Duncan is in larger print and runs from the beginning of the 2nd pole piece to the end of the 5th. Duncan Designed is smaller print and fits between the 2nd and 5th pole pieces.

Still an oddity, as it should either come with JB/Jazz or HB-103s, not HB-108s.

Edit - Oooh, nevermind, found some KE3s with HB-108s. That's probably what it is, with the screws removed.

Re: I need help identifying this Jackson

ok cool, but is it basswood or alder, etc? I am not a fan of basswood voiced guitars.

Re: I need help identifying this Jackson

Should be alder.

You're missing out on basswood though. The right guitar with the right pickups. That's what this forum is all about. I just put together an RG and it's absolutely crushing.

Re: I need help identifying this Jackson

I am sure it is great, but I don't have much money to work with so I am not able to test around with things so I will stick with my favorite Alder/Mahogany.

Re: I need help identifying this Jackson

My RG was $100 and the Entwistle pickup was $20. ;)

Flametop and Floyded bolt-on = KE3.

And don't sneeze at the basswood - Jackson typically uses a better grade of wood than some other manufacturers. There's just as crappy mahogany as there is basswood.

I usually don't consider what pickups come on a used axe, as they're held on with screws, which means they're easily replaced.

I put a Gibson 498T in the bridge of a Kelly import and it had a vicious bark to it.
I wish my LP Standard would have had that tone, I'd probably still have it.
