I Need Ideas for Cosmetic Design of Custom Amp

Hey Guys,

I'm working with Scott to get a design going for a new Celtic amp. The circuit's based on the old tweed Fender Tremolux, but the cosmetic design of it (i.e., tweed vs. tolex, color, location of controls, knob types, labels, patterns, etc.) doesn't have to be tweed, but it can be. There are some limitations, but really I'm just looking for ideas to start out. From there, Scott and I can talk about what's really doable, and I'll eventually post pics of the finished product.

It'll most likely be a 1x12 combo, in case you're wondering. To get ideas on my own, I've been looking at other manufacturers' amps, but I always like getting input from other forum bros. Fire away!

Give a rough idea about he amp. Is it a Backloader(i.e.) Tweed style? or top loader -BF/SF style. Are you looking for a more traditional look or something contemporary that jumps out at you?

The original fender tweeds look nice. A cool alternative (I think) would be black tolex w/cane grill. Pretty basic, but tasteful.

Well, the circuit is based on the original Tremolux tweed, so would that make it a backloader?

I could go in the direction of something traditional (e.g., tweed), something modern (e.g. Divided by 13), or something retro (e.g., Tone King)...or something altogether different. I guess that's why I'm looking for ideas. :)

Oh Man do I have an idea. Get a type of grillcloth that is somewhat seethu and make the speaker basically the iris of the eye kind of deal with the baffle board being light/white colored tolex and the cab front being an almond shaped overlay in the material of choice with the see-thru grillcloth being the scalera of the eye. That would be pretty cool looking and would catch folks attention quite well. I'll show you what I mean in a drawing later if I have time.

Definitely send a drawing of that! It might be a little out-there, but I'd like to see it anyway.

Blonde tolex, oxblood cloth & panel with cream colored chicken head knobs.

Re: I Need Ideas for Cosmetic Design of Custom Amp

shave your cat and glue the fur onto the amp. Then you'll have a half-amp/half cat and it will be the best amp in the world. Unless you're allergic to amps.

Deep wine red tolex with a light tan coloured grille cloth . . .
