I need the JCM800 sound...

Re: I need the JCM800 sound...

I think I would rather have the VM instead of an 800 myself.

A lot of 800's were modified, and a lot of the mystic today is based on some famous modified versions, I think. There are two very different sounding stock 800 models, and I'm not sure which sound people are refering to when they say the "800 sound"? Is it the 2205/10, or 2203/4, or a modded version of either?

reel big fish's guitar tone from their live 2006 live album;) it's actually a good representation of 'the classic 800 sound' if you can get past the ska rhythm playing.

*EXACTLY* :yeah:

I can definitely attest to that as I swear by my 800 - it's the benchmark for everything else I build or mod. However it is also heavily modified and is the " 800 heavily modified sound " :)

The ADA MP-1 preamp will do the modified JCM800 2203 tone, no problem. I own two of these and there's no better tone for me.

Had one. It was too fizzy. Had no touch sensitivity.
You need the MIJ model or get it modded. A 4x12 cab might help also but it still won't be an 'exact' 800 sound. Actually Dean De Leo used to get a cool sound with his AC-30's on top of 4x12 cabs

Best thing I think to do is get a tube screamer, set the level at 10 and the drive at 0, and crank your amp up until you hear that ballsy sound.
