I need to get into more blues!

Hey guys, I need some names thrown out to me. It's hard to get into new blues because it isn't mainstream by any means, and none of my peers listen to it.

Here is who I listen to right now:

Albert Cummings
Albert Collins
B.B. King
John Lee Hooker
Muddy Waters
Robert Johnson
Jonny Lang
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Robert Cray

Help me out guys, I need to get into blues more. I'd really like to be turned onto some more stuff like Lang and Collins. I'm about to get my hands on some Albert King too.

Thanks a ton for the help. P.S.- if anyone could point me towards some blues shred. I have some Gilbert and More, but that's it.

Re: I need to get into more blues!

Electric
Johnny Winter
Taj Mahal (also plays country blues)
Hendrix Blues
Piano
Memphis Slim
Otis Spann
Country Blues
Mississippi John Hurt
Son House
Brownie McGrhe and Sonny Terry
Old Stuff
Robert Johnson
Tampa Red
Charlie Patton
Booker White (Bukka White)

For some scorching blues I would recomend Johnny Winter's "Johnny Winter" and "Nothing but the Blues".

Taj Mahal's "Giant Step" is a great album too.

Re: I need to get into more blues!

For fast blues I meant Johnny Winter, Nothing but the Blues isn't really fast, I just like it a lot.

Re: I need to get into more blues!

Lets not forget!
Buddy Guy
Freddie King
Tinsley Elisis is a good choise for some modern Blues .

Re: I need to get into more blues!

Check out the "John Mayer Trio"

It's not the same as "John Mayer," it's his blues band.

There's a live album called "TRY!" that is definitely "modern blues"

Great Strat tone!

Re: I need to get into more blues!

Joe Bonamassa. Young talented guy. Rock-blues style

Govn't mule. again rock-blues.

Re: I need to get into more blues!

Adding to the growning list:
Al Cooper
Mike Bloomfield
Derek Trucks
Steve Cropper
Roy Buchanan
Pee Wee Crayton
Clapton
Muddy Waters
Jimmie Vaughan
ZZ Top...who knew??? J/K
Cream
John Mayall and the Blues Breakers

Re: I need to get into more blues!

Yeah, Joe Bonamassa for sure. He can rip.
Also, Hamilton Loomis is good, Big Bill Morganfield is Muddy Water's son and is pretty good.

Re: I need to get into more blues!

. . . ok, just remembered these guys :

* John Hammond - at some point he had both Jimi Hendrix AND Eric Clapton in his backing band, believe it or not !!!
* Popa Chubby - diff. take on da blues
* Ry Cooder - very underrated muso as a blues player, me thinks !
* Tony C. and the Truth - modern blues riffs with Everlast style vocals - not traditional blues, but very entertainning !

So, look into them if you get some time !!!

Re: I need to get into more blues!

For blues it helps to think like a singer at times. :smokin: Like lead singers in old time Gospel choirs adlib melodies all the time. They never sing outta key and they know diddly squat about theory or anything else!

Derek Trucks thinks like that...
I have watched an interview and he says that when he plays he tries to make the guitar into a singing human gospel voice!

oh yeah check him out BluesGuyJ, Derek Trucks - slide guitar
