yeah, check out the resale value of the gibson and if its more than ur ibanez then go for it. that way if you dont like the LP you can sell it and buy a new ibanez :14:

Re: I need your About this Gibson

I like my Ibanez (I customized the guitar) but any it's a Gibson, I don't really know the value but is a GIBSON ...Do you know the actual value of tha model? used of course...

Re: I need your About this Gibson

From memory, i think LP studios retail new around $1200 so for used depending on condition id say it could range anywhere from 600-900. But that is really a rough guess, im not sure

Re: I need your About this Gibson

Those are two VERY different guitars. I'd personally do the swap, but Ibanez sabres really don't suit me so it's easy to make that desicion. The question is whether the Les Paul wil suit your playing style.

For me, the Les Paul is more of a 'tone' guitar, ie one that sounds great first and foremost (though I'd upgrade the pickups in a studio myself). Playability and comfort come second to sound to a certain degree on a guitar like that.

Whereas a guitar like an ibanez sabre is what I call a 'notes' guitar, as it was primarily designed as an instrument that offers extreme playability for highly technical guitar styles. This comes at a tonal tradeoff, to some degree, as super shredder guitars generally don't sound great when you dig in on them. A thinner tone may be an advantage, though, depending on the style of music you play.

To sum up: if you play really athletic stuff, you may struggle a bit with a Les paul. However, if you want a fatter, more ballsier sound, then go with the Les Paul.

I think Hot_Grits sums up your situation perfectly.
If it was my deal I would do it as I haven't had great luck with shredder type guitars in general.
That said your Ibanez sure is pretty, and appears to have the SD upgrades in place, plus you have "History" with your guitar which can make these decisions tougher as well.
Anyhow good luck to you.

Re: I need your About this Gibson

I think your going about this wrong. If you like your Ibanez.... keep it. IF you feel the Studio will be better for you do it. The other concern is........ how good of a friend is he? If you are getting the better part of the deal and he is a good friend I would talk with him about it!

Re: I need your About this Gibson

I would go for it anytime, but than I would probably not own an Ibanez in the first place. Give the guitar a try, and if it really doesn't pull any string in you just keep the Ibanez if you like it.

I don't think you should part with a guitar you are happy with, unless you found something you find way better, or you can't do otherwise.

I'M really like a lot my Ibanez 'cause the sound to playing style, but that Gibson is very good one temptation...
