Man- I'm gonna have to send him my plexi reissue to do some mojo on it- Holy Crap!!

Re: I never get sick of this guys Mods..

I've just shellacked myself numerous times, at least twice per clip. They're like a drug. Hmmm...I guess there's something to this whole "music" thing after all. :)

I just love David's mods...they aren't the tightest sounding mods there are...but they just scream...very ...errm...rock and roll..they ar enot super refined or whatnot..just flat out brash and ballsy..

Not to mention David is a helluva player...

And here's something that hit me while listening to all of these...and furthers an age old argument...Tone is mostly in the fingers : despite all the various mods on this page (Most of these are clips of customers amps he's tweaked to their tastes)..and all the different guitars, pickups, and even amps he's using here...JTMs, 2210s, HW Plexi RI's, 1987Xs, Bassmans....each with different type mods...teles, strats, les pauls, PRS, prs pickups, duncan customs, EVHs, and 59s....David still sounds like David no matter what....the tone and even timbre changes are subtle from clip to clip to clip....

either that or Greenback 25s are where all the tone comes from and nothing else matters!:laugh2: :laugh2: :chairfall

food for thought...

Re: I never get sick of this guys Mods..

I can't argue with that argument. :D

And speaking of food.....LUNCH TIME!!!!! :laugh2:

Re: I never get sick of this guys Mods..

The tele through those :yell: I am dying. That sounds so amazing. And that bassman sounds wicked too.

So. Now my dream rig is officially a 100 watt plexi with this guys mods and a thinline tele.

Awesome - the thing I love about the David Bray clips is how he makes the amp sound kindof like what you imagine a Plexi would sound like if you didn't have one. They definately don't sound like a real Plexi, they sound unique but also extremely cool which is why I want one!

So far I've discovered that Dave ties the two channels (two sides of V1) together in parallel, hence why the amp sounds so responsive and can go from clean to plenty of gain with just a guitar volume roll.

Re: I never get sick of this guys Mods..

I Want One Of Those Plexi Mod Ii's!!!!!!! Sounds Hella Good!

Re: I never get sick of this guys Mods..

I think it sounds good as well

but 2 things

1) half these amps I only experience thru sound clips. Everyone hypes Splawns etc to me and has NEVER heard one. Same with the Bray. One was for sale a year ago for $800 or more locally, I wish I had checked it out.

2) What is this re-work exactly? What or how much does he change to get that tone?

I would DEFINITELY mod an RI amp. Trust me I have been tempted. He can offer DUAL MASTERS and FX LOOPS as well - I am drooling here.

He gave me some cool tips a few years back about my Plexi RI, all the tweaks ended up sounding fantastic. Basically by tweaking cap values, resistor values and messing with NFB he can get more clean to scream w/o drilling any holes and adding tubes. It is amazing what a few changes can do. ... By all accounts I have heard and my limited interaction, he is a very cool guy to deal with.

An excellent point. David sounds awesome through all of these amps, but with his chops I think he could make a Cort into a Gorilla sound great. These amps sound awesome and make any current or once-upon-a-time classic rock fan want to clean out his wallet. The real test is this: How do I sound through one of these? Being far away from playing "Eruption," I don't know if the mods would do me much good.

David does say this is no magic box that will make your playing improve by leaps and bounds; the tone has to be in your fingers in the first place.

Nonetheless, I'd love to play through one of these and a Splawn some day...or at least hear someone else with the chops to make 'em scream.
