I never post threads like this, but.... Yngwie gets pwned.

This is a neoclassical shredder guy named Mathew Mills - obviously influenced heavily by Yngwie (notice the scalloped fretboard) but he's.... well... lots faster. LOTS faster.

I don't know how much this holds up as music - there is melody in there, but it goes by so fast it's hard to catch. So I present to you, purely as exhibition of impressive physical achievement: this.

well, michael angelo is also faster than ... pretty much anyone, but yngwie is still better in my book

the scalloped fretboard (with players like this) has very little to do with the player actualy trying to 'copy' yngwie. it has more to do that you can have a much lighter touch on the strings thus it enables you to play faster as you dont need to press down a whole lot

We are talking about playing a musical instrument, not an olympic event, yes??? Who cares who's "faster??"

I do...

At least as far as physical achievement. It's a spectacle. I certainly wouldn't play it back through my stereo for any kind of listening enjoyment, but you have to admit that it's crazy to watch this guy's hands fly around like that.

Didn't say he was trying to "copy" Yngwie with the scalloped neck, but the influence is undeniable. Face value.

Nice I like the way his fingers move.

Re: I never post threads like this, but.... Yngwie gets pwned.

Ya know...if he was playing through an amp that had some gain on it....

Good point. I thought it sounded a little too clean/dry myself.

You're right- it is crazy to sit and watch his hands fly around like that.

Art and pure physical achievement rarely touch the same nerve. This case is no exception. I can honor the physical achievement, while still feeling cold and detatched experiencing it.

It's like watching math.

Re: I never post threads like this, but.... Yngwie gets pwned.

I'd never want that to be my main style, but I must admit there is always a part of me that wishes I could play SOME stuff like that, or have that kind of physical talent.

Re: I never post threads like this, but.... Yngwie gets pwned.

Wow... that was cool... for about a minute, then I'd rather watch wet paint dry.

Re: I never post threads like this, but.... Yngwie gets pwned.

I'll admit, when I was 15-18, I used to sit around trying to achieve a level like that, then I realized that most of those guys actually had crap for music compared to players that put their soul into far less notes.

Unless you're in a neoclassical metal band, those sweeps, arpeggios, and chromatic licks are useless. I still love to watch guys like this, and even sit down and blaze through stuff that's not quite to his level, but I left that style behind, as a phase I went through as a teen. I'd rather play like Robben Ford, Scott Henderson, Billy Gibbons, David Grissolm, and Brent Mason.
Those are real guitar players.

Re: I never post threads like this, but.... Yngwie gets pwned.

 No thanks on that one, sooooo boring to listen to.

Re: I never post threads like this, but.... Yngwie gets pwned.

I don't care about faster just for the sake of faster. Sure, impressive, but not to me. There are many types of talent, and shredding is only one of them.

Re: I never post threads like this, but.... Yngwie gets pwned.

Becker was that fast, and better melodically. Still cool, thanks for the post.
