I really like the BroBucker, but I don't think that A2 is the way to go. The Brobucker is close, but not perfect. Ironically, I think the thing I would change would be to back down the resistance a bit, perhaps to 9.5k, as I'd like a bit more treble. I'd think that an A2 would remove even more of the highs.

Now, a 9-9.5k range Brobucker with an A3 might be interesting. A3s are similar to A2, but with a little more top. I like to imagine that they on a continuum, they are 1/3rd of the way between an A2 and an A5 (being closer to an A2).

I'm curious to know what, if any, changes you'd make? Would you stay at 10K, or maybe bring it down to 9.5K or up to 11K?
Do you know how close our specs are to the 78?

As for Alnico 3......maybe we should do that next year for the Brobucker 3.

The main thing is I'd like MJ to make the call on what she thinks, specwise.
Anytime we try to collectively come up with specs, we take a chance that it won't be that great.

ive had/have 9.4k matched coils, 9.6k mis-matched coils, and 10k matched coil alnico II overwound antiquitys as well as the brobucker which is 10k mismatched. you dont want to go to 11k imo, it starts to get weird and maybe harsh or peaky on some things and can be to dark. harsh and dark not a good combo. 10k is about the top for 42 plain enamel. im not a big fan of alnico 3 in the bridge but ive never tried a 10k pup with one either. the alnico 2 usually sounds more full, which can be an issue in the neck but in the bridge id rather have the extra beef. i like the tone better of a degaussed a2 than a3 in a stock 8.4k antiquity, the top end was similar but the a2 was a little bigger in the low mids.

as for the wind, all those pups that i mentioned before sound stellar! if you like the overwound paf thing you are in heaven. the matched coils are a little creamier when over driven and warmer when clean. taking a few turns off gives you a little more open tone at the cost of some volume/mid push.

some people like the tone of alnico 5 better, i prefer alnico 2 especially in the bridge for humbuckers. the degaussed a5 of the brobucker has a big fat bottom which is great for some guitars but can be heard as dark, with the a2 it isnt as bottom heavy which may be heard as brighter.

i typically plug into a smaller tube amp and turn it up enough to get my sustain and crunch from the amp. if you play thru a dsl50 you are gonna want some things different than some one who plugs into a deluxe reverb or tweed bandmaster

I'm just wondering why another official Forum pickup that would be just a magnet swap? DIY, baby...

And for the more advanced students with steady hands, if your Brobucker is non- to lightly potted and you want sub-10k, open up the screw coil and take a few hundred turns off and put it back together, get back to us with the results.

i tend to agree even though i like the a2 better. the basic pup is the same so a mag swap or since its cs, just ask for a2, takes care of it. no real need for a bb2. of course i have two, so im not the one to ask.

Wouldn't it be better for some originality and to do a Forum pickup that hasn't been done before? If you don't like how a Brobucker is now, re-pot it and replace the A5 with an A2 and you've got exactly what you just asked for. Doesn't seem like anything new or original to me.

I think we hit on a f'in fantastic idea with the hot PG. PG wind, mismatched coils, 9.5-10k? It would sound different from the brobucker, with I hear is based off of the S-Deco wind. Also +1 for degaussed A2, balanced with the fantastic singing character we all know and love. But that's for later. Right now, CS single coil all the way!

Do a 5/2 in humbucker. A5 on the bass strings and A2 on the lead strings. Best of both worlds. Seems to be the typical debate on whether A2 or A5 magnet with the A5 having the better definition and the A2 being sweeter.

That is very difficult to do, sir. If you put an A2 too close to an A5, it will degauss. The high end would be literally nonexistent.
